The Low Volta

well, as the title suggests, I was wondering about all those fantastic (and less inspired tongue.gif ) member names... how do ppl come up with that diverse range of names...so

  1. Where does your member name come from?
  2. If in another language (eh, all you Japanese lovin' mods tongue.gif ): what does it (literally) mean? (for all I know you could be called: "I like to have my left shoe for breakfast and a sweaty sock for lunch", even though that might be improbable laugh.gif
  3. What other membernames did you have in mind?
  4. What other exisiting MDCF-member names here have caught your eye (and why)? (beautiful, interesting, the oposite?)

I guess that will be enough questions for one thread (but you can always add more if you have some ideas!)... just start answering guys-n-galls

-----------------------------------------------

my answers:

  1. it was an adaptation of 'The Mars Volta' (favourite band) and also reflects the fact that I know didly squat about electronics ('Low')... as I started becoming more active, I started using 'Volta' as short just 'cause I'm lazy and do not like to type a lot, but that actually gives the wrong idea as if I'm electronically literate, which isn't the case tongue.gif
  2. not applicable (but on ebay I'm 'Lage-Voltage' which is Dutch for 'Low Volta')
  3. a bunch of Dutch ones and my nickname with my buds 'Basje' (which is short for Sebastiaan, but is also a more comon name for small dogs laugh.gif )
  4. I like 'Atrain' and 'Dieselducy' as they (if I remember correctly) stem from their early childhoods (Atrain as a mispronounciation of Adrian and Dieselducy as the name of a toytrain... but I'll let them give the correct explanation)

now it's your turn...just shoot

Believe it or not, Banana-tree is my real first name.

I used to be "ZombieTycho" and still am at the AudioT board. It was based on a character from the Penny Arcade Comics that wore Tycho Brahe's clothes, but was a zombie they all hated.

My actual real first name is Jaron, kinda different but mostly boring. So after I read the famous Robert Pinsky poem "Impossible to Tell"

Slow dulcimer, gavotte and bow, in autumn,

Bashõ and his friends go out to view the moon;

In summer, gasoline rainbow in the gutter,

The secret courtesy that courses like ichor

Through the old form of the rude, full-scale joke,

Impossible to tell in writing. "Bashõ"

He named himself, "Banana Tree": banana

After the plant some grateful students gave him,

Maybe in appreciation of his guidance

Threading a long night through the rules and channels

Of their collaborative linking-poem

Scored in their teacher's heart: live, rigid, fluid

I have an alternative name "Bashõ" which I use as a prefix for all my MSN messenger names.

So there you have it, Bananatree stuck, because of some foruming that actually carried over from the internet to real life, and a group of people only knew me as "That Bananatree Guy".

Syrius is an alternative spelling I chose over the star named Sirius. It's the brightest star in the northern sky, and since it's part of the Canis Major constellation, I thought it as a name for a potential pet. I use it for myself since I decided to start using cartoon or RL german shepherds as avatars. That's my favorite dog breed, btw.

So there you have it.

I had a crow four four years, as a result, I learned a great deal about them and really enjoyed the experience.

I chose my name for a variety of reasons:

- It was the name Talking Heads (my favorite band) were originally going to use, until David Byrne decided it didn't sound right.

- I like the contradiction of the words; placing "idiot" with "savant" (meaning "learned")

- According to dictionary.com an Idiot Savant is "an intellectually disabled person who exhibits extraordinary ability in a highly specialized area, such as mathematics or music" (any attempt for me to explain it would just confuse people, I'm sure.) Though I'm not one, I find it a quite endearing quality.
