Vinchenzo
Even with the use of a good set of Senheiser headphones, the volume on playback is diappointingly low. I have the AVL switched off and the volume turned up full, but the sound is simply too low. I know that I can manually adjust the recording level when recording using the line-in, but am at a loss to see how the recording levels can be upped when using SonicStage or MD Simple Burner to transfer music to the mini-disc. I would be grateful for any tips or ideas anyone might have.ThanksVinchenzo
KJ_Palmer
You can't increase the volume directly using Sonicstage or Simpleburner, though you could you Sonicstage 3.2 to burn a normalised CD-R or CD-RW and copy to MD from that. That's what I currently do, and it works fairly well. You can of course use 3rd party software like Audacity to normalise imported Wav files etc. before copying..If you're using really good quality Sennheiser headphone (like HD600 or 650) they have very high impedence and aren't really suitable for unamped portable use. You could try using low impedence/high senstivity headphones or earphones, which should give you more loudness, or buy a portable amplifier, though you should be careful with your hearing in any case... jonny mac
Do you have a Eurpoean model? These are volume capped and will not increase in volume beyond setting 24/30. If this is the case you need to hack the unit to get some volume increase.I wouldn't recommend increasing the recording volume as this distorts the sound. Christopher
Welcome -- in addendum to KJ's questions, what codecs are you using? What is the source of your music files?
veezhun
i dont think there ever was a euro capped version of the nh1... i am sure i read it somewhere here..
Christopher
That is correct, the NH1 is not Euro-capped, but I do recall some people saying the hack made it "sound better". I think it was purely psychological, however.

jonny mac
The NH1 is not "officially" Euro-capped according to Sony but in reality it is Euro-capped, although less so than other HiMDs such as the NH900. I don't remember seeing anything about the hack making it sound better. It's just louder.Vinchenzo - was your NH1 bought within Europe? Having said that, the NH1 service manual simply says that the output is 5mw whereas for other models like NH900 or second gen. models it explicity states the different outputs for the regions (eu being lower).
