Back to MD after using HD based mp3 player

I have had over 6 years reliable, hassle free listening from MD.

Recently I bought an IRIVER H340, my bag fell and the player stopped working, after about 3 months of use.

It's a great device with great sound - but who wants that? A player that breaks so easily, and then have the Australian company wash their hands when it comes to support? I sent it back to Japan, where I bought it, and it was repaired for free.

I learnt that one thing that makes MD so great is their rugged design. They come back for more abuse and still work! I also missed the tinyness of an MD player, and the AA battery replacement option, so great when on the road.

So I bought a HIMD player - the MZ-NH700, on special here in Australia.

Welcome back MD!

I gotta dig through some of my older net-md and standard discs, some good music on there....

Great to hear you've come back to MD! But I'd still get a case for your NH700, if I were you and treat it carefully. They are rugged, but can still be broken.

I have a HDD (Sony NW-HD5) and an RH910, which gives me the best of both worlds. The HD5 does seem much more fragile, and skips a lot more - well actually the MD never skips. Anyway, enjoy your lovely MD! :)

I love reading "back to MD" stories :D

I dropped my NH900 the first week on a thin-carpet basement floor... still worked. I've dropped my RH10 a couple of times (I usually out of reflex tend to hack-sack my dropping devices with my foot to lessen the blow), and even dropped my new EH1 twice.

No problems whatsoever.

MD: Best sound, best look, most durable. Can't go wrong.

Something I don't understand: Every camera, regardless how cheap, regardless if it is digital or film, has an eyelet somewhere on the case, where you can add a carrying loop or a safety chain.

However, I never have seen a MD-player with one and most of the expensive HDD-players don't have it either.

Not even the ridiciously expensive Qualia 017!

Something is definitely wrong here...

Yeah, I am still going to treat my MD player with respect... I guess I mean at least I wont lose 40GB of music from a hard drive dying, and MD is more suited for transportable, portable music because it is small and rugged. MD discs dont corrupt and break like hard drives do.

Also when I started to use the H340 I found it took a good week or more for my ears to adapt to the "harsher" mp3 sound.. it was a little bright or something. It's amazing how different codecs bring different things to the music. ATRAC has its own audio personality, thats for sure! :)

My N510 has one, to which I attached the provided stripe. But I hardly use the stripe because it is just easier to put the MD player in my pocket than hold it in hand (since there is not much to look at on a N510 :)

The MZ-N510 has one, so does the E630. I'm pretty sure a lot of Sony units do.

Sony even made a special version of their EX51 in-earphones that had a loop to hang your unit on.

Though I think an MD unit might be a bit heavy on the neck...
