macalloa
I'm new to this forum - found it by chance. Some years ago a friend convinced me to go into minidisc and I purchased a Sony MDS-JE510 for my separates system. I was well pleased with the unit, still performing without any problem.Later I bought a Sony MZ-E25 for holiday listening beside the pool.I also wanted a portable unit that would play CD's and MD's - preferably without a cassette deck. One day I was wandering around Dixon's (a UK High Street retailer) and came across a CASIO ZD-3 boombox which had CD/MD/radio - ideal.A real bargain, it was heavily reduced to around £70 from an original price nearer the £200 mark - obviously not a good seller - probabaly due to the unusual combination and MD still being relatively new to the British market.I trawled the equipment archives - found no reference. Was it a European market only product ?Anybody else got one ?
atrain
it is probably a rebadge of another brand of boombox. can you post any pics for further id?
Christopher
Welcome to the forums, macalloa. I think that this is probably a SP-only unit, as Casio didn't market any products that supported MDLP from what I can recall.Yes, a picture would be keen -- spy shots with a cameraphone, maybe? djduquet
Casio made less than half a dozen portable units. I'm amazed that they had a boombox unit. Pics would help a lot.

Andicillo
Nice unit. Obviously pre- NetMd. what about the volume? Does it sound fine?
macalloa
Nice unit. Obviously pre- NetMd. what about the volume? Does it sound fine? The volume is fine, although it is the only audio control, no bass or treble.Very handy for quick recording from CD (or radio) to MD. bmanalansan
I was fortunate to buy a Casio ZD 1 for $65.00 in the U.S. It is an MD boombox with radio, CD and remote control.

Was it a European market only product ?Anybody else got one ?I have one..here in the States. Its nice. Nicer still is this....I have one.. Look around for a Sony MXD-D3 It is a Home Deck--AC(mains? you'd call it) that combines a CD player and MD player, recorder. SP, LP, Lp2. etc. Whats cool about it is it lets you quickly copy your CDs to mini disc complete with titles. No need to use you computer. Plus you can plug in a microphone and record to MD, or just plug into line and record cassettes or LPs to Minidisc directly also..inputing titles is just a matter of pushing one button once..then you just turn a knob to scroll in titles.. Its cool. It never use computer software to get music into my md discs and still get titles, time, and disclabels in. I found mine for $200 at a pawn shop in like new condition..I have hundreds of old time radio shows archived to it and hundreds more of jazz lps(20s through 80s) on minidisc thanks to it..I'd never have done it if I had to mess with software. atrain
it's the thing where commercial cds or cdrs with the text filled out was transferred to md automatically.
