Okay, I haven't decided if I'm going to keep it or not. Maybe you guys can help me decide. Here are my pros and cons for the unit:

Pros:

Great sound quality after recording,

small and lightweight,

easy to use.

Cons:

Bass response not strong enough,

Not loud enough (cassette players have more volume),

labels on case not bold enough (I'm afraid the oil in fingertips will remove the labels over time).

i own a mz-rh10, the bass on my unit is the best to date, i use the sound 1 with the first setting on the graphic equlizer at 3. I am using sony mdr-v600, if you use the headphones that come with the unit, those are crap.

About volume well there isn't an actual line out, but if you turn off the equalizer and turn the volume all the way up its fine.

I have owned my unit over a month, and i am very happy with it. Beats my mz-n10.

I figured the earphones that came with the unit were not made for bass response. I was considering buying some better headphones but I don't want to spend too much, maybe around $20 - $30. Got any suggestions?

If you want bass response for a low price, you can't go wrong with Sony MDR-EX71SL! You would not believe the bass these put out! I like a lot of bass and I still have to turn it down sometimes with these. I'm wearing mine right now.

You can't go wrong with Koss porta pros2 these are the best for the price. I just got a second pair cuz' I miss placed my other pair. The bass is full and beafy not to mention the overall goodness of the mids and high's. My first pair cost me about $20-$30. The pair I just bought was less than $10. I believe the are out of stock so pick them up if you can find them.

About your volume issue if you have a Euro Hi-MD then you can hack the volume limit. It's on this forum somewhere.

Where exactly did you purchase these headphones: Sony MDR-EX71SL, Koss porta pros2 ? I have the U.S. version of the RH10.

If you are in the US, go to any Circuit City, Fry's, CompUSA, Magnolia AudioVideo or even Radio Shack. You can get decent headphones for less than $40.00, the Sennheisers for example are not bad at all.

Sennheiser PX100s are pretty fine and not much cash.

Also the newer PX200's

I sometimes use a pair of EH150s (~£20) and they're even better (but a bit big for true portable use).

For the phones, check out the sticky in the phones section about the various types for under 100$

Post is really well written. I'm a clip-on fan personally, and the recommendation for the Koss were bang on. Ok, they are ugly, but if you are a basshead and want to amp your phones at home the Koss will deliver much more then you'd expect. They are just beastly.
