Any suggestions for new earphones?

How about these:Sony Fontopia Lightweight Ear-Bud Headphones with 9mm Drivers

Model: MDR-EX51LP

I saw them at the Best Buy website. Does anyone know if these are good earphones? They're about $35.

Not too sure about that, but I myself was using MDR-EX81LP and it rocks. The bass is superb and everything sounds so "together". I'm not sure if you get what i mean, but mark my word for its a wonderful bud. The only problem is it has a lousy rubber insulation on the wires that "rot" after a few months. Alot of users on Audiocubes reported that problem on their comments page.

I'm not sure if the cable problem exists on EX51, but i'm sure it would sound wonderful.

I have enjoyed my panasonic RP-JE50 ($25) very much so far...

and if your ears are big enough to wear them comfortably the sennheiser MX series are a step up from the stock buds for only $10

sorry to say but those are not good. i had the mdrex71 and what can i say: good bass, exagerated highs and soso mids. The mdrex71 and 51s are extremely fragile. The cord is too thin and it's made with some kind of rubber instead of plastic. In my case, the cable that goes around your neck got some kind of "melted" and I only used them for walking :unsure: .

Hey! I experienced that problem too on my EX81. So i guess the same problem goes through all the EX family members. Recently i went to Sony Service centre and they listen patiently to my problem, and then prompty refused to give me a replacement on the grounds that i sent in my unit after 9mnths of purchase, while they only allow replacement within the first 6months are so after purchase. What is more ridicious is that when i argued that Sony didn't mention the 6months notice anywhere, the guy at the centre told me that Sony is only doing the replacement "out of good will". Well, i'm stumped for words.

Went home and placed a black tape over the spoilt area.

:o OMG! i was planning to send the earphones to the exchange center in laredo,TX. I'll send them and i'll tell you what happened. (wish me luck)
