Alternative to SS --- Audigy 2

I bought an Audigy 2 ZS card for my laptop (can get great 6.1 and 7.1 DVD sounds as well).

The card also has an Optical IN and Optical OUT.

Using their software you can transfer to minidisc (Minidisc centre included in the software) via the optical out on the sound card --fits into the PCMCIA slot on your laptop.

OK the transfer to Minidisc is in "Real Time" but you get all the track info etc etc and there's a nice Minidisc labelling application included.

This is great also for recording legacy discs such as SP mode where it is "Finicky" to add all the track info.

The audigy library has no probs with format conversions or sharing libraries between computers. You can have Multiple libraries as well --- problem with SS is what do you do if your disk is full --you can't (AFAIK) add multiple volumes to the database --if I'm wrong please tell me how to do it --would be very interested.

The MD application gives you MD playlists which you can store in an EXCEL spreadsheet for example so even if you don't want the real time application the play list facility is very useful.

Cheers

Not sure how to add an image on this site but if you double click

you should see the screen

The CD I got was an oldish one so the application might not be available on the newer version --but it's available all over the net.

Hehe :P I think titles can't be transfered through optical. Actually, I'm pretty sure. :D I remember Sony had a special "title transfer" cable, very cool idea. (Although mega-expensive for it's use). It connected the source (a Sony Discman with remote out or MD with remote for example) and your MD through the remote jacks if I remember correctly... cool :).

Thats my point. If its recording it can't copy the titles. If its transfering then it could. Since its via the line in it has to be recording.

Your right about the remote control port though. Since you can title using a remote some people build and wrote an interface to title MD's though the remote control port. However I've only seen it for older Sony units. Its also only of value to non NetMD or HiMD units. Because once you can transfer via USB theres no point in titling a MD any other way.

The creative app used to be good for inserting gaps between tracks when record from the PC. Thats also not needed with USB transfers.

Joint Text A feature allowing MZ-R909/R900/R90/R91/R55 recorders to be coupled to particular Sony CD walkman (e.g. Model D-EJ2000, etc.) with a special Sony RK-TXT1 cable. When coupled with this cable (as well as a normal digital optical audio cable), a "CD-Text" CD (i.e. CD with track title information) can have its track titles transferred to Minidisc during recording. Note that as each track is recorded, several button presses on the MD unit are required in order to capture the text information. Given these factors, and that most CD-Text CDs were released with the titles set to "COPY-PROHIBIT", it is not surprising that this feature disappeared beginning with the Sony MZ-N1/N10/R910 units.

Then theres...
