Boost My Life

Question

Well, as the title may suggest, I am in need of a way to boost my battery life for my NWA 3000. It is at best 8 hours, and that is at half volume. I have read up, and I am mostly playing mp3's at 128kbps. At full voume it seems closer to six. I have tried the draining process.

A noticable point is that my nwa had 2 bars of charge when I got it, so I stuck some songs on it to drain it, unwittingly charging it. I am going to get a replacement, as the battery must be faulty. So does anyone have advice for proper charging ritual when I get the new one? The manual gives nothing on the first charge, so I am left wondering...

The PDF manual for my NW-A1000 states that the battery does not have a 'memory effect'... basically, it's lifespan / capacity isn't affected if you charge the battery when it's not empty. Therefore, I don't follow a charging ritual as such - if I'm going to be away from a mains socket for some time and the player is going to get a lot of use, I'll make sure the battery is topped up. I do prefer to charge the player with the mains adaptor plug...

I think Sony have exagerated their battery life span quite a lot... notice how their tests are with the lowest quality ATRAC3+ (which I guess is hardly ever used and happens to be more efficient)... it'd be nice to know other test conditions, such as the volume Sony tested at, display option etc.

Sorry, I don't think I helped!

Uhm, the battery out of the box should be 1/4 full and eventually will say please recharge.

both mine were like that. i got 13 hours out of my a1000 on a battery test, you can find the info in the reviews area.

I haven't tested the a3000 but I am assuming the battery life will be greater than the a1000.

mind you I am using I am using EQ on, volume 13 and most if not all songs 192 or above, in mp3 format.

There is no need for the battery to be fully discharged, just charge it when you think you need to.

I usually charge it when its 1/4 or so.

How long have you had it?

Hey everyone

I'm new here as well, living in Sweden (so don't be too hard on my English)

Anyway, I'm having the same problem with the battery, I got the NWA-1000, and when I'm having the display brightness att lowest, no EQ (none), and songs around 192kbps, I might, with a bit of luck, have a batterylife on like..5 hours. And that's way less than I expect, I mean, I understand that I won't get the 20h since I'm using 192kbps but still..it's too bad!

I have to say that the battery should last longer than it does, after all, before this Walkman I had an Creative MuVo II 4gb. And when having the volume om maximum, a customized EQ i did get around 12 hours of battery, on this Walkman I only get around 6hours (on vol 25) and that's a bit dissapointing. Besides this, the NW-A1K is a great player.

Ok, I thought you had a A3000 and 6 hours would be rather horrible on it. Who listens at volume 25 with their player?

I actually got at 192kbps with EQ on, shuffle, and wolume 13 around almost 8 hours before I had to actually recharge it. Granted some songs are also VBR and above 192 mp3 and I did access the HDD from time to time.

The A1000 doesn't have a large battery but it is still quite good when compared to other players on the market.

who?? I do, thats who lol :D I dont know what my nw-hd5 puts out, but i charge it maybe once every two weeks, I dont use it all the time though, maybe 6 days out of the 14 for about 3 or 4 hours each day. Roughly speaking here. I listen to my hd5 on about 25 alot of the time, and quite often put it on 30/30 for the odd song. It isnt as loud as my mz-r909 that, is for certain.

Those quoted batt lifes are bull really, I mean it does say *when listening to atrac 48kb/s tracks.

mdr-ex81 :D lol I've always listened to music quite loud, whether i'm losing some of my hearing I dont know, But if its vocals such as enya or something, I can easily listen at the full volume. I always start at around 19, but i tend to add a little more, then a little more, and before i know it, im at the full volume haha. For my r909 its different, with that i listen at around 23/30. My mz-r909 can power audio technica ath-a900's while my hd5 cant even get close to trying. who knows.

I want to say something here that There are some people in the forum like "mercury_in_flames' who listen to their music at very high vol .& .I agree with Ascariss that after vol 16 it becomes very loud (With Vol Crack ).Those Who are listening to music at that high vol are at higher risk of losing their hearing .They will not realise now but after sometime they will realise .

Everynow & then there is an article in Newspaper by Doctor that listening to music at high vol on I-Pod or Walkmans .According to them we should listen to music in rather low vol or 60% of the highest vol(But not more than that ) for Half -An Hour .Then we should give rest .They advice to listen music on I-pod or Walkman for Only 1hour daily...
