jon_m
I've got lots of my CDs stored in flac format. Any way I can get these to Net MD via USB, without converting to another format first? Or can I use another lossless format? Also, am currently getting podcasts through Juice. What would be useful, though, is some way to get more automation in transferring files to MD - any suggesions?Use Realplayer mostly for transfers, occasionally SonicStage. No problem with using other software if necessary (actually, would prefer to find something different). Thanks in advance,Jon
The Low Volta
NetMD only plays NetMD formats (LP4, LP2 and SP) and SP is the best quality possible (only real SP from realtime recordings not the Fake PC->MD SP, when transfered from PC, it is actually slightly worse than LP2 (for a thorough explanation for this, search these forums)even with HiMD there is no lossless format other than PCM (not compressed)podcasts are mostly in MP3, which needs to be converted as well so unless you script this, I guess it'll require some manual labourbottom line:with NetMD, transfers from PC -USB-> MD are 132kbps lossy (=LP2) at best quality

Might be time to give Sony the finger.http://global.cowon.com/
jon_m
thanks for the suggestions.Trust sony to make software of such high quality that people on an MD forum suggest going over to an MP3 player Just a thought - there's no way to have an MD player to put different s/w on it (as you can do to an ipod, converting it to linux, for example)? Syrius
Sonicstage will accept Windows Media Lossless. Cowon's JetAudio basic will convert from FLAC to WMA-L with no problems. And regardless of format, Lossles is lossless is lossless.
The Low Volta
still, all of this really is of no matter as (like I said before) the best quality you can get from USB/PC with NetMD = LP2 (132kbps)on the other hand, HiSP (Atrac3+ @ 256kbps) which is available through USB/PC -> Hi-MD is almost completely transparant AND gapless so that really fits my listening needs perfectly till the next gen supports FLAC
Roamer
FLAC support from SonicStage would be a nice addition (that's how I archived all live recordings ...).

Syrius
Well, he asked if he could use another lossless format besides FLAC. That's why I suggested WMA-L.
