porio
Hi all,I decided to revamp my mz-n505 and bought a remote for it. I went for the mc35elk, assuming that newer is better. Basically, it rocks! All the basics (and more) work perfectly, only the Group+ and Group- buttons are not functional (but holding the P.Mode button is the same as pressing the Group button on the main unit). My only concern is with the display. I wasn't expecting a two-line display, but all the high resolution of the remote is wasted in big letters that allow for only 6 letters at a time! Moreover, the scrolling is so slow that it takes more than twice the time (compared to the main unit) to display song and group titles. Is there a way to change that? I have noticed that when accessing the menu in the remote it uses a one line display but with smaller letters (which should allow 8-9 characters to fit. Is there an option/hack to use those smaller letters fro songs and groups titles?Another issue: When accessing the menu from the remote, under the 'Option' menu I have three submenus: AVLS, BEEP (I have my n505 partially hacked) and something in japanese or chinese characters. Anybody knows what is that?Regards.

porio
Here are the images (I hope that the attachments work)First is the name of the sub-menu and then the two options that there are inside. I have tried selecting each of them and I have not noted any difference at all.[attachmentid=1827][attachmentid=1828][attachmentid=1829]Regards. bland10000
the sub menu line says "select method of kanji"
Richard
the sub menu line says "select method of kanji" It's the same on the EH1 with the 40ELK - the options according to the manual are:Kanji FirstKanji & KanaThey are only relevant I think if you have the main unit language set to Japanese. porio
I see... thanks! But any ideas about the first question?
jaylen
The 35ELK will allow for the special 2-line display with only the N10, NE810, N910, N920, and RH10 - all Japanese units. I have the 33EL, which has the same basic features, except that the 35ELK has kanji display (E for backlight and K for kanji, I believe) and has a higher resolution (and narrower text?), so it will scroll slower. My N505 is also hacked, but unlike yours, the group buttons on my 33EL work fine. Have you tried holding down the DISPLAY button, scrolling through the remote options (using the FF and RR lever), and then enabling "GROUP"? I have a "GROUP" and "GROUP OFF" selection when I do that. There is also M-TIMER and PERSONAL. Sorry, I haven't heard of anyone hacking these for the N505 to change scroll speed and utilize the smaller characters for titles.
