cocomitch
Sorry to ask again,I posted this query earlier but although it atrracted 50 + viewers,no one was able to come up with a reply.I have two computers, completely independent of each other both running Sonicstage 4.0 under Windows XP.With both of them, when I click on Transfer - Create an Audio CD, I get a message in the centre of the right hand window, where it should say 'Insert a recordable CD', or words to that effect,I get a message saying 'Device/media not connected.'Also under the 'Controls' tab,the 'Create CD' is greyed out. Also in 'Controls' - 'Device/media' , 'Drive Selection' is greyed out.In 'Tools' -Options - Creating a CD' ,The boxes for 'Drive' and 'Writing Speed' are blank.I am racking my brains for a solution.....I thought that perhaps software like Nero might be 'taking over' so I removed it from one of the computers, but alas to no avail. Can someone confirm that they do NOT have this problem with Sonicstage 4.0 ?It seems very odd that I have this problem doubled on two separate computers with two different CD drives.Oh, I can burn CDs from other software like Nero.Windows Media player etc no problem -But I would appreciate the ease of being able to write CD's from atrac files within Sonic Stage, rather than having to go through each track I want to burn and exporting them individually as wav files so I can burn with a different program. I hope I'm making sense! Even if someone can confirm that it works on their computer fine for them, it'll be a little step forwards in finding the solution! Many thanksColin
mrsoul
I had the same problem a few versions back and Sony support couldn't help me. Finally, I removed CD Creator from Roxio and just kept Nero and then I had no problems. I actually had 2 CD drives and neither would appear. I don't think my problem was a Sonic Stage issue but something conflicting with the Nero and Roxio drivers, etc. Just my .02 regarding the same issue. cocomitch
Thanks for that info!Yeah, that's the only thing I can think of that could be the problem. So I uninstalled everything like nero and roxio, then reinstalled Sonicstage ,but it still will not recognize the CD drive. And yet Sonicstage works fine for UPloading CD's. It's only in the writing of CDs that there is a problem. It's just frustrating when a piece of software won't do everything it says it does on the tin! It's times like this when I start to feel treacherous and have a wee peak at the itunes software........but it would still be complete sacriledge to abandon minidiscs in favour of an ipod or whatever.....So the search for a solution goes on...... Avrin
Uninstallers of Roxio and Nero do not always remove their drivers. This may cause various conflicts (Roxio and Nero cannot coexist successfully, to start with). Try this clean tool from Nero: http://www.nero.com/nero7/eng/Driver_Clean...tryChecker.html Do not forget to reboot your computer afterwards. The Low Volta
also programs that emulate drives (deamon tools, alcohol,...) are known to conflict with the drive recognition of SS and SB (but mostly for reading/importing as well as for writing)
cocomitch
Thanks for that, folks.I tried Cleantool on both machines, but it hasn't worked.I am really suprised that there are not other Sonicstage users out there experiencing the same problem. Surely loads of users have Sonicstage and Nero/Roxio /whatever running on the same computer. Very odd! Ah well, back to the drawing board........! The Low Volta
yeah, I have alcohol 120% and used to run deamon tools and nero...and it did mess up the drive recognitio from time to time, which was mostly restored by disabling the said programs... but as for limiting my experience that much, no, not really... importing CDs worked again after exiting deamon tools etc and I simply never use(d) the CD-writing function of SS. SS is a crap program that is slightly getting better, but for me the only useful function is importing my recordings. These get converted to wav, (edited if needed), backed up and if they need to be on a CD, I'll use a program that was meant to do that like nero or alcohol or even EAC or Burrrn... but SS isn't a CD-creator, heck it's even a lousy player...unless you really have the need to create atrac-CDs I really dunno why SS CD-writing not working should bother youand for ease of use, if gapless isn't crucial for you, simply keep your entire library in wma-lossless and you can burn from different programs and even without losing audio quality (why use a lossy file to create an audio CD?) Richard
It is interesting - I use Daemon Tools a lot and have at least one virtual CD drive enabled at all times. I have also had Alcohol 120% installed and have yet to run into problems with drive recognition in SS for ripping or Burning of Audio CD's. I guess it's all Nero or Roxio's fault then. The Low Volta
I personally mostly encountered trouble with drive recognition in SB when at least one daemon virtual drive was mounted, unmounting all drives lifted the trouble...so I guess it really is strangeit also occured before I had Nero and after I uninstalled Roxio (only had that for a really short period)
cocomitch
Yeah, The Volta, you are right on everytning. It just intrigues me how the sonicstage software will not perform all the functions that it is supposed to do.I started archiving on to Hi- MD before I had a large computer hard drive, so all my CDs are recorded on Hi- SP 256 kbps.I know that is not lossless, but I can't hear any difference with the source CD's.Since then, I have a 300g external hard drive where I keep all these atrac files, so changing to wma-lossless is not bringing me any benefit that I can see.Sometimes frineds want a copy of something in my collection and it just would be handier if I could burn audio CDs straight from Sonicstage. But it's not a huge deal -like you say, converting to wav files then burning with whatever program gets the same results. Thanks for all your useful input!
