mercury_in_flames
Well first what happened is that whenever I loaded my directors edition ‘f.e.a.r’ (bought from amazon.co.uk) into my cd drive a message came up saying ‘can’t find original cd’. So I uninstalled alcohol 120 % and then tried again, still the same problem. I then uninstalled the game and cleaned the registry from entries that game might have left, installed it again, STILL same problem. I eventually managed to get it to work, but I think a program called xfire might have had something to do with it. That is not completely fixed however as it still happens once every so often. My main problem right now is that after uninstalling the game, I used the cheat codes to get back to the level where I was. I then used a cheat code to get ALL weapons, I typed ‘t’ and then ‘gear’. So then when I got back to where I was, I ‘dropped’ the extra weapons, but then I could not scroll forward and backwards with my mouse wheel to get my weapons to start using them, why is that?? My BIGGEST problem now is that I can not pick up any other main weapons, such as a sniper rifle, in Interval One at Exeunt Omnes, near the end there is an automatic sniper gun, I cant pick that up for some reason, when I press the F key I just hear a faint beep noise in the game. The same occurred in Interval 04 where the enemies had shot guns, I can clearly see them on the floor but I can’t pick that weapon up either. I have updated the game with the patches and now have version 1.6.Here are my specs;{Custom built computer}Windows xp pro, 2 gb ram, 2 x gainward 256mb 7900gt in SLI configuration, amd 3500+ CPU, motherboard is an Asus A8N-SLI premium with realtek on board audio. Graphics drivers are nvidia 91.31, direct x 9.c.
atrain
xfire is a gaming stats program isn't it? have you tried the manufacturer's website? sometimes they have support forums

mercury_in_flames
i sent the tech support an email and they told me to turn off the stuff from startup using msconfig, and update to the latest graphics drivers. I already had 91.31 drivers for my 2 7900gt's, but for some reason just this morning i couldnt adjust the settings on it, and it was giving me a run.dl error message and closing my 7900gt settings control panel. So i uninstalled the drivers, rebooted then reinstalled again from fresh. I turned my internet off when i restarted, and tried to run the cd, and now the game works fine. (Norton wasnt running since the restart). I also found that my outlook 2007 beta 2 started up faster. Im really glad my games working but not so glad that i suspect norton might have been the cause. It was either norton or the starforce protection on the game seeing that i had an active internet connection or something or other. cheers

The Low Volta
I just finished 'restoring' a PC from a friend of mine which was 'cripled' by Norton... well, it was mostly a human error (incorrectly unistalled Norton and installing Norman on top but it didn't work correctly because of leftover residue of Norton; further they downloaded lots of stuff and there was no real protection so I cleaned out some 8 viri and 160 instances of adware/spyware) I have personally only known trouble with Norton!I've had it 'preinstalled' on my portable and I've had to reinstall windows from a 'hacked'/stripped (or rather home-made from my legal) windows installation disc to prevent the registry settings being added (even if I chose not to install it with a fresh reinstall of windows, there would be Norton-traces present)so as Danny says, ditch Norton (ot really is no good) and get the AVG, AdAware, Spybot S&D combo and occasionally run TrendMicro housecall and you're safer than ever and no exra crap on your disc
mercury_in_flames
well in my experience norton is a serious bugger to uninstall completely off a computer, i mean every trace of it gone. Now i just have it disabled in ms config from starting up.
