WaywardTraveller
The title sorta says it all...I'd desperately love a Hi-MD deck, but would settle for a GOOD bookshelf system. The Sony CMT-AH10 and LAM-X1 have gotten mixed reviews (mostly due to weak speaker output??), but for going back to grad school they still might be what I need. Still lookin' at that Onkyo MD-133 to attach to my 15+ years-old-but-faithful Sony receiver, though... For those of you who might not know what I'm talking about:http://www.minidisc.org/part_Onkyo_X-B7+B8.htmlSince I'm more of a portable man right now, any and all opinions would be more than welcome. Hell, we could always make this The Big Hi-MD Deck And Bookshelf System Thread...? peaceWaywardTraveller

Richard
I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but as I've said elsewhere, I'm really happy with the X-B8 I bought earlier this year. The SQ is outstandingsome excellent connection options - optical in + out (cd only) / rca in x 3 / rca out x 2 + plus subwoofer outnice timer functions for recording from line / opt / fm/am etc...World band FMone touch dubbing of cd to Hi-MDand it looks pretty good to boot.. heathenmagic
Hello Richyu, glad to know the X-B8 has timer function, thats a definite tick in the box for that model. Would you say this is the best Hi-Md deck available, for features and quality? Shame we can't get these in the UK. lol.
Richard
Would you say this is the best Hi-Md deck available, for features and quality? The X-B8 is a bookshelf as opposed to a deck, but the Onkyo Hi-MD bookshelves in my opinion are streets ahead of the Sony ones. The actual day to day features of most of the Onkyo bookshelves are very similar across all models (apart from the one with the Bluetooth adaptor), the main differences seem to be in the speaker variations and finishing.
