WaywardTraveller
Assuming you don't already have one (if you do)...and forgetting about your current unit roster...A silver NH1 (Chinese) for CAD260, no tax, and probably comes with an optical cable (like my last one), MC40ELK....all the usual accoutrements. Wouldchya? I'm stuck, cos it's CAD260, but at first Ithought it would soundlike the nh900....but itsounds soooooo good with better battery life! hmmm.....peaceWaywardTraveller Edited October 1, 2006 by WaywardTraveller
MDX-400
Yeah sure why not. Maybe you can try to get it a little cheaper, say $225? LOL. Otherwise it isn't really a bad deal and the NH1 isn't the easiest unit to come by. They're usually on eBay, one or two of them, but prices aren't especially low on that unit--it keeps its value pretty good.
jaylen
If you're getting it because it's available for purchase, I would pass. Haha, I'm strictly also the type that won't buy units for over US$200. I'd rather get the RH1 over the NH1, if I had no other MD units in my possession. If you're getting it because it's an NH1, go for it. You can always get rid of it easily since, as MDX said, the NH1 has decent resale value. It's a big reason why I baby my jeNH1 more than others. The NH1 isn't one of my favorites, but it is one of my most valuable. but at first Ithought it would soundlike the nh900....but itsounds soooooo goodThe NH900 and NH1 should sound the same since they both have the HD digital amp. But, the psychosomatics behind listening from an all-magnesium, sleek body versus a somewhat chunky, half metal-half plastic body can be powerful. Mr_Bass_Man
Well, I bought a brand-new NH1 in the UK from a high street retailer when it was on "special offer" for just less than 100 UKP (I read about the availability of this offer on this very forum ...).Now that is about 210 Canadian dollars or 188 US Dollars at today's prices.Bearing in mind the earlier comments about "HD Amps" and "magnesium sleek bodies", I think that was rather a good deal.Would I have paid around 25% more had that been the deal?I think the answer is probably "yes" as the NH1 is a smashing piece of kit - _almost_ as nice as my beloved N10 aesthetically, and it has a removable battery plus the added flexibility of HiMD ... Richard
Wayward - correct me if I'm wrong but your sig says you have 2 NH1's already - are you merely curious as to whether we think this is a good price?
MDX-400
^Hey! Yeah wait a minute what's that all about. Plus he's got two gold ones!!! Damn you Traveller! LOL j/k The gold ones are worth even more, but I'm guessing he wants a silver one too? If it's a silver one you want, you might get a better deal on eBay. Say, then you can sell one of your gold ones to us for a low-low price hee hee hee

WaywardTraveller
In response to those of you who asked me why I'd want a third NH1....it's because....[lowers head humbly] I am a junkie. I AM partly curious as to whether it's a good price or a rip-off...but also, quite frankly I thought before "Why would I want an NH1?" - and then I tinkered with the one I bought - it's fast becoming my favourite recording and playback unit (I'm currently toting around an NH700, NH900 and an NH1! )...the battery is much nicer and I'm a sucker for the 40ELK too..jaylen: you're right...I think there might be some psychosomatics in there, cos even though I haven't done any "scientific" testing (lol), I'm often convinced there's just a BIT more clarity ...I had thought about waiting and getting an RH1, but the MP3 playback doesn't matter so much to me, and that is (more or less) the only significant addition for me.That, combined with the now-infamous idea of "stocking up for the winter" (I won't mention any names, but YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE ) is, pushing me towards taking advantage of it now as opposed to paying more for it in Canada (including postage, etc etc). And if I were gonna sell a unit, it would probably be my NH700..sorry heh.mmmmmmmm....gold, silver, gold aaaghaghaghagghhhhh [Homer Simpson]peaceWaywardTraveller
WaywardTraveller
The NH900 and NH1 should sound the same since they both have the HD digital amp.Waitasec (uh-oh lol)...at the risk of a replay of my past posts ( ), although the "Differences" thread in "Hi-MD Essentials" says otherwise, I checked the Equipment Browser and the NH900 and NH1 seem to have different amps (on that page, anyways lol): the NH900's is digital while the NH1 has the HD amp:http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-NH1.htmlhttp://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-NH900.htmlIf this is true, would I be amiss in venturing that the NH1 and RH1 have the same HD amps??peaceWaywardTraveller Edited October 4, 2006 by WaywardTraveller
Sparda
omg, you have so many units already! i would buy it for a lesser price. since you already have 2 i don't think you really, really need a third one. i think i've seen a post somewhere here that said the RH1's digital HD amp is slightly different from the previous digital HD amps, some what more refined? I wouldn't really buy into that though, i think all minidisc players sounds better than an ipod, hehheh.
WaywardTraveller
Sparda: if you think *I* have lots of units...I don't think I can even touch some of the others on this forum! In other news re: "differences" between the NH900 and the NH1's digital amps...I went back to my hotel room, looked on the back of each, and firmly resolved never again to use the Equipment Browser at least until it's revised and Wikified.. peaceWaywardTraveller
