rayzray
i stumbled across this researching "Fair Use"..from (http://copywrite.wordpress.com/tag/copyright/fair-use/)Consumer Electronics Association President and CEO Gary Shapiro critical of RIAA 08/11/2006Posted by D. Keith Henning in DRM, Fair Use, Dark Content. add a commentLinkCEA: RIAA refuses to cooperate, carries out “thinly veiled attack” on fair use (via Ars Technica)CEA President Gary Shapiro said, “Although the RIAA continues to try to muddy the waters, this much remains clear: the music industry no longer agrees that a consumer’s right to make a first generation copy of a song includes the right to play it back when and how the consumer wishes.” Shapiro is referring to the fact that the RIAA would like to block the ability to record unencumbered digital music from either digital radio stations or satellite services such as XM or Sirius. Current law allows for personal recordings of both video and music, and even the television broadcast flag under discussion in Congress allows for private recording on a basic level.((any one want to comment; is this relavent to us?)) bobt
The way I figure it is what I do with a song when I record or download it is my business, and no one elses. It is mind boggling to think that I can record something but not listen to it.These people need a life.Bob
Syrius
And who's going to come and check my computer for music to see if it's fairly mine? The FBI?Oh, wait. Some guys in black suits and dark glasses are knocking on the door. Hope it's not the Men In Black. Or the Matrix's Agents.

pata2001
Until we get rid of the DMCA, we can kiss fair use goodbye, since almost all new content medium have some kind of DRM on it, and bypassing the DRM, even for fair-use, is illegal under the DMCA. Funny thing is, we have people complaining to DAP makers like Apple, but I don't see anybody attacking the source, the RIAA/MPAA. People are still gleefully buying crap artists under the labels part of RIAA, thus financing the RIAA to remain in business and turning lawmakers on their side. And who's going to come and check my computer for music to see if it's fairly mine? The FBI?Wait till you got one of those lawsuits from the RIAA. Under the patriot Act, they don't have to proof that you actually have illegal content anymore, they'll just assume so, and sue you to dry. rayzray
i always thought teachers could make "Copies" for their class use; as in, i copy sheet music JUST to teach lessons?![Late edit]actually, i put some songs on my Hi-MD900 and play them into my students' CD/Radio players/Karokee Machines; and, use the speed controd with no pitch change so they can follw easily..i can make loops and such to teach;; makes a good impression for the Hi-MD's. *i really hat using only ONE punctuation* Edited November 17, 2006 by rayzray
mdmania
Don't worry, you will only get sued if you have enough or make too much money. Other than that just enjoy the music and listen away.
