I have a big problem my computer was infected with several trojans that now are removed

but the trojans also corrupted many .exe files also some windows file.

sonicstage .exe file was one of the many files that got corrupted

so i tried installing it again with a proper uninstall.

After installing SS 3.4 again i tried run it and i only get this error:

Can't find OpenMg secure module (error 00005607)

I tried install the OpenMG secure modules separatly

problem is that this installation come in a .msi package

and i have a BIG problem with "Windows installer" that handle .msi package

it gives me a 1601 error (same error i also get with Msn messenger that also use .msi installer)

I tried all means of restoration to get Windows installer back but with no luck

i even used the sfc /scannow command to restore broken windows file but no luck.

I dont have the windows CD (this is on my old backup computer i use while new one is to repair)

so i cant Format/reinstall windows yet (i will do later on)

Meaning i have to find a mean to Transfer Mp3 to my Net minidisc.

so question is:

1. Does anyone have the Secure modules installation in other format

than .msi files since i cannot get .msi files to work on my computer

any other installation would do.

2. If 1=NO and there is no way for me to install ANY version of sonicstage

(i do have sonicstage 1.5 CD but i dont know if it will work without windows installer .msi)

Then what is the RECOMENDED way of transfering as easy possible mp3 to Net minidisc?

I do have Nero 6 for example, But i dont like Real player one (it was known for having ad-wares in past)

if all other option of installing sonicstage is out

then i need a easy step by step instruction (preferable with photos)

on how to transfer music to minidisc by other means.

Hope someone can help

because i will probaly be stuck with the rest of the year

with the old pc and realy need a solution to transfer mp3

either get Window installer .msi to work, SS to work or using another method.

:(

Not sure if this would work or not, but may be worth trying:

- Install SimpleBurner from the downloads section here in the forums.

- Create an audio CD image with Nero using the mp3s (it can be longer than a regular CD if I recall correctly) and mount it with Nero ImageDrive.

- Open your ImageDrive path in SimpleBurner and transfer to MD.

Let me know if this works or not. The only setback would be that you would have no track titles transferred.

I tried installing the Full installer of SS 3.4

but the installshield gave me a error (probaly installshield is corrupted too since is not found in the registry i checked)

problem i cant install new installshield because it need .msi and for that

i need windows installer which also is corrupted.

Strangely i was able to install Sonicstage 1.5 from the original CD

so it seem instalation from Cds work.

Now if only SONY could be kind to send me the 2.2 and 3.4 version

i would be happy.

Does anyone have a spare Original CD of SS 3.4

but must be checked if it use .msi installation (which 1.5 cd dont use)

I am glad to atleast get one version working on my old pc

even if is the old 1.5 version

PLEASE answer some question:

1. Can i write to Sony Japan or sony anywhere asking for a new CD?

2. will Sony charge me for the Cd, if they do provide me a new cd?

3. i forgot how Old SS 1.5 work you dont drag the music there right

must click import and do it from import button no dragging ?

4. Does anyone have a Spare CD of SS 2.2 or 3.4 (the best versions)?

5. Is the sound quality very bad in 1.5 compared to 3.4

I am transfering to netmd mostly 192kbps songs

6. Can i upgrade from 1.5 to 2.2 or newer version

or do i need .msi for this?

Any help is apreciated

and thanks for posting the Nero method i may use that one as a last resort

if SS 1.5 proves not to be useful.

But i am sure what i need now is a CD

I'm pretty sure all SS versions from 2.x onwards will use .msi files for the OpenMG secure module. I think you need to sort out your windows installer problem (did you try downloading the Windows Installer 3.1 again from MS?) before you go any further.

yes i tried downloading it again but maybe i need a older version of windows installer

problem that is only avaible from a XP pro cd which i dont have for the old computer.

As for SS version i though having SS on a CD would help since they probaly not use .msi files

and if version 3 use maybe version 2.2 not. (2.2 and 2.3 was my favorite version but dificult to find now)

Is there a way we can check and confirm if 2.x version and above use .msi on the provided CD?

that way I have confirmation on how to proceed next.

ofcourse i too would prefer the windows installer problem solved but i tried many things

without luck so far.

Problem Solved

I did another atempt to reinstall windows on top

this time i dindt get a bluescreen (plugged out the modem)

When windows was reinstalled the Windows installer worked again

I was able to Install Msn and Sonicstage 3.4

havent tested transfering yet but problem seem to work so far.

Problem is rests of the virus is still on pc

since i dont have Windows Cd i have a folder on Pc with windows setup files

and this folder was probaly infected too.

So when reinstalling windows rest of windows (the one infecting .exe files)

have followed with the installation.

I will probaly have to format later on

but atleast the Windows installer problem is solved.
