HIMD availability

I purchased the MZ-RH1 last autumn and I'm sooo pleased with it. I'm not going to elaborate why I totally love it, Spiff did it so well and I'll just add that MD and HIMD above all represents versatility: record, listen and keep recordings elsewere than in your player or computer. This is particularly important for me since I use my MD recorder doing fieldwork in social science. If my MD recorder get stolen at least my recordings survive. Enough about the ups. My only quarrel (besides Sonic Stage...) is with the industry in not supplying HIMD discs. I live in Sweden and there are no HIMD discs to be found. When I ask around the people in the audio stores stare at me as if I had a third eye in my forehead. Why are there no discs around!? The latest discs from Sony are only available in the UK or Germany why not in Sweden? Does this problem exist in other countries as well?

You are not alone. Australia has a very similar situation. Hi-MD only available at a few real retail stores. Plus a nice new expensive price over double what we were paying before as a nice new gift from Sony.

Same gripe here in the U.S. but probably not as difficult to get a hold of one since most e-tailer like minidisco and other has them and can be ordered. One reason they are probably difficult to acquire is also they are probably expensive to produce. At least that's my guess.

The only place that actually restocks here is my local SonyStore. Others places you can occasionally see them, and they are the leftover stock. I guess its not as bad as your situation but we are all aware.

Welcome to the world of minidisc in the 21st century. Both units and HiMD media will be hard to come by now, certainly in retail stores but even more so in the next few years on line. Other than Ebay, eventually you may only find one on line source... the same one that sells reel-to-reel tape and beta. That said, that won't stop the die hard MD users at all. We know why this product is so good (and cool), and so many of us tend to "stock pile" our units and media for the future. So should you find a deal, splurge now. If you think you may use a different format in 5 years, don't worry about it and just buy a bunch of blanks on line right now.

I have found Ebay to be the best and most economical way of getting blank HiMD discs. On the average I get 5 HiMD discs for $35 USD shipped.

In Poland, what was quite surprising for me when I got interested in it, I can get Hi-minidiscs easily. I've seen some in audio shops, and big electronic malls, and if such places fail, there's still local Sony centre - they always have them. It goes the same way with RH1, I have found it in many shops, and in Sony store, sellers told me, that they remember to always have few on stock, because many people are buying them ^_^

I have been disapointed with the overall rejection of MD format and lack of good promotion.

I have an old MD recorder but noticed very few places offered MD equipment and supplies. I used to purchase MD's from WalMart but I do not believe they stock them any more?

I have been disapointed that they have improved with the release of HiMd yet there is no availability of HiMD tabletop units or car audio units?

Why are these not promoted more? Certainly in my opinion and that of anyone who is educated in the advantages the MD HiMD format is superior to CD in most ways and has more potential and should be promoted more.
