Transfer speeds in SS for PCM tracks

Basically, I'm wondering what the dubbing speed is if you use PCM. The one thing I like about CDs is that I can burn 80 minutes of music in just a few minutes. I know MD is slower because of the magneto-optical system, but I was wondering how much slower. In other words, how long will it take me to burn a 1GB Hi-MD disc? Sorry if I'm confusing my terms here ...

I did a experiment for you to answer your main question. I had a CD transfered into my Sonic Stage as WAV, this CD was 47min long. Using my RH910 it took 13min to transfer the WAVs. Bear in mind I was multitasking at the time, I had 2 monster programs Sonic Stage and Itunes and FireFox browser open. This may have effected the transfer time a little. Also, bear in mind if you buy the RH1 it has faster transfer speeds than any other HIMD made. Just a guess on my part but I believe you could probably fill a 1gig disc on a RH1 in less than 25min. I know that's not like a CDR but considering that you can multitask well with Sonic Stage doing this, all the perks would be worth it. You'll just never be able to throw a disc in at the last minute before going to work. Hope this helped, later, POE.

Yup, I figured I'd use the Hi-MD discs, even if I have to order them. The sound quality is the most important thing to me, but it's worth paying $5-$6 for ~94 minutes of recording time vs. 28.

Thanks for the input! I appreciate it.

I didn't know what you meant. You will rip/encode the CD on your computer, using SonicStage and then transfer them to your HiMD. How fast it rips the CD is dependent on the speed of your computer. Then you transfer it to HiMD via SonicStage. The RH1 is the fastest HiMD for doing this, but all HiMD's have pretty slow transfer rates, slower then a USB 2 drive etc. You can also transfer direct to HiMD using Simple Burner. I've never used that myself. Which ever method you use its faster than real time. It takes me about only a couple of minutes to rip a CD on my computer, but takes a lot longer to fill a HiMD. Probably 10-15mins. Can't remember exactly as I've never timed it and its been a while since I did it.

The RH1 is capable of ~1MB\s transfer speed. As you can see, is faster than realtime. It's the same or better than a 6X CD-RW burner
