fahrrad
Good day!I would be very thankful if someone could help me with following:i have some problems with my Sony mz-r91. When I open it, inside, on the uppersurface there is some kind of cap with a small thin metal plate and under it - some chip. This plate is curved a bit, so it juts out. And when I insert a disc - it could be some wrong positions of it I don't know. I guess that the cap goes up and back and opens the chip.Could it be a reason why the minidisc doesn't play properly? (it takes a long time to read the disc with some noise but finally it just gives up)Thanks a lot in advance!all the best, alex

fahrrad
Are you aware of the unit being dropped or sat on , or hit somehow recently? No, not what I remember. Anyway, something should have happend to it, because the cap is being curved. I travel a lot, but always try to handle my recorder with care. It's working partly, even recording, but the problem is with reading/playing only. I saw this cap was curved only yesterday and tried to insert discs in two different ways - with a cap closed and open, but the result was the same. What do you think?thanks

greenmachine
This -was- the magnetic recording head. Don't insert any more MDs into the unit, they might get damaged / scratched / randomly erased. It's not easy or inexpensive to repair, so your best bet would be a replacement unit - a Hi-MD if you can afford it, or one of the older (used) models if you can't. raintheory
This happened to one of my MZ-N707's not that long ago. I actually took the unit apart and physically removed the recording head. I use the unit as a player only now and it works just fine.
THIS SUCKS
if you are careful and the technical type you might be able to take it apart and bend it back in place. i did it one time with one of mine.if you fix it to several tests to make sure it doesnt erase or damage your disks and recordings.
