Sammyboy
I should be getting a bargain NH-1 soon (Just over £20 inc. del off Fleabay!) but it doesn't come with it's charging dock. I understand it has a proprietary connector so can't use a standard Mini-USB lead with it, but have seen a USB cable also on Ebay for just under a tenner (shipping from the Far East). Question is, can I charge the NH-1 from this USB cable or do I need to invest in a mains adaptor? Also, I believe this takes a gumstick battery, would I be able to charge and use the batteries that are currently used in my E-909 and N710 in the NH-1, or are they a different size/shape or voltage? I also suspect I can't use my existing mains chargers with the NH-1 as it needs a higher voltage charger?
Sammyboy
I've used the batteries from the E-909 and N-710 in each other so they are interchangable - it seems from the picture on the NH1 spec page here that it's battery is slightly wider than the gumsticks I have
greenmachine
The NH1 uses a 3.7V Lithium battery (LIP-4WM), whereas your other recorders use 1.2 V Ni-MH, - different voltage, chemistry and shape - they're not interchangeable. I believe first generation Hi-MD recorders didn't have the "charge from USB" feature, so you would need a dedicated power supply.
Sammyboy
Just another quick question then, although it may not charge the NH-1, can I at least power the unit via this USB cable adaptor so I can test it and make sure it works before shelling out on a docking station? Richard
Just another quick question then, although it may not charge the NH-1, can I at least power the unit via this USB cable adaptor so I can test it and make sure it works before shelling out on a docking station?Unfortunately the NH1 can only be charged in the cradle with the ac adaptor and not via USB. Unless you have another unit that takes the same type of LIP-4WM battery (DH10P, NH3D, EH1, RH1 etc..) you won't be able to charge the battery. But you could power the unit via USB from the computer to test the transfer of tracks.* Moved to Hi-MD section
Sammyboy
That's something, will presume I'll be able to test the playback too?
Richard
That's something, will presume I'll be able to test the playback too?You can but I think the tracks will only playback through the PC speakers when connected to the computer. I may be wrong though.
A440
MD formats (SP, LP2, LP4) play back through the headphone jack, controlled by SonicStage. Hi-MD formats play back through the computer, also via SonicStage .
Sammyboy
Good, that means I should be able to test most of this NH-1's functions straightaway, though I won't get it for a few days as the seller only accepts cheques and postal orders!
