nathantw666
I was browsing the Sony site and just for fun I went to see if they still had the Minidisc as a current item. To my surprise they do. The unit is listed under professional audio. http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/cat-audio/cat-recorders/ So all is not lost yet. Unfortunately I can't seem to locate the discs that should go into the unit!I was browsing the Sony site and just for fun I went to see if they still had the Minidisc as a current item. reefbeef
During a call to Minidisco about a month ago, they said that Sony said the RH1 (M200) will be the last model, but that they are still making them.
nathantw666
its not a new unit its just an rh1 with a mic included...That's correct. I didn't say it was a new unit. I said that they haven't abandoned the minidisc just yet.
smteacsmo
Well this is good news. Do we need new models beyond the RH-1 ? Maybe not. We certainly need at least production of the media (MD's and Hi-MD's), and support for SonicStage. So it's good to see Sony promoting it as a professional recorder, this commits them for at least a few years
Syrius
Sony shoud make a low-cost version of the RH1. Do we really need OLED displays and LI-Ion batteries on a recorder to make it work? Of course not. Just something that can take gumsticks and/or AAs, mic and line input, and the ability to upload SP recordings.

It appears they want to push the solid state units that have no moving parts. I can kind of understand that. I was recording one concert and I had to stand up for some person to get by me and when I sat down I hit the chair hard enough to jostle the unit. I didn't think anything of it other than "uh-oh." When I heard the playback, though, there truly is an uh-oh in it as there's a drop out and the RH1 couldn't playback or upload that part to Sonic Stage, even though it was recorded with it. Thankfully the RH10 was able to do that task. A solid state unit wouldn't have had that problem.
Syrius
That sounds good too. As long as they keep the hi-quality amps and stuff (meaning, just replace the MD with another type of media), and unencumbered uploads, I'm happy.
