rmil
I have a number of minidiscs that came with second-hand net md mz-n510s bought on e-bay. I can find no way of erasing them...both the mz-n510 and sonic stage 1.5 simply give the protected message. Any advice? brian10161
Move the slider on the bottom of the disc cartridge. Sounds like its just locked.
MDane
Actually, I have had a few do that, even with the slider in the right position. I was only able to erase them with my older (home) deck. However, once I did, all was fine.
sfbp
Not sure about this: as MDane says, I usually walk across to my deck and stick 'em in that. Assuming it is this silly "TrProtect" thing (you might first try deleting one track at a time), then there is always the Initialize option (well hidden) under Controls->Device/Media->Initialize.Also you might find a format option instead of erase. Acccording to the 610 manual there is only "D: Ers" so if that's what is failing I may be out of ideas.

It is, indeed, the TrProtect thing...... that comes up whether I try to erase a single track or the entire disc.
Strungup
I think Format is the only option .Erase , is just header files getting removed . Format actually cleans the disc . here is the manual if you dont have it http://minidisc.org/manuals/sony/sony_mzn510_manual.pdfThis unit is factory set to just record over existing material . So if you put one of these discs in , and just hit record , it should record over the Protected tracks as well .in effect erasing them as you record the new material . Otherwise from within SS you can select a Format Disc option Edited December 31, 2008 by Guitarfxr
