Hungerdunger
a. The controls are fiddly and confusingWhich model to you have? In what way do you find the controls confusing? b. Sonicstage continually stops working and yes, I ran it as administratorWhat version of SS are you using? Some older versions were unstable. Do you get any particular error messages when it stops?c. I tried to drop and drag from my music files. The walkman tells me no track, yet my computer tells me the tracks are there. No one has ever claimed that you can drag and drop music files. Maybe a bit of research would have told you this before you spent your money. You can use a Hi-MD disc for file storage, but you won't be able to play the files unless they are imported via SonicStage.d. Looks like the only way I can get things recorded is using Simple burner and a cd.Or asking here for advice.
bobt
If you find an NH-600 confusing everything will be confusing. As hungerdunger say's, what version of SS are you running, versions 3.4 and up are faultless, easier than some other programs for music transfer that I have used. Give us some more information and we'll see what we can doBob
sfbp
It sounds like you have expectations related to Itunes. What Itunes can NOT do is the subject of a long and as-yet unwritten tome to which the members of this forum will (I assume) gladly contribute. If you don't need the features of Minidisc, you probably don't need Minidisc. The most important of which is sound quality. We all know that SonicStage is a kludge, but if you stay within limits it does what you need to a lot better and a lot faster than anything comparable, on or off a PC. If you don't need to record, edit, change pitch/speed ..........My 16-year old has owned a succession of Ipods. One day I gave him my cheapest unit, the MZ-NE410 to have a listen to, with a disk in it with some chamber music on. His reaction: "Holy Crap". MDane
I tried to drop and drag from my music files. The walkman tells me no track, yet my computer tells me the tracks are there.I agree with the others that felt you may have gotten into the product with the wrong impressions of how it works, or how simple it will be to a novice. But keep in mind most of us (on here) have been using the MD format for many years, learning how it works, and getting each upgrade / change in small steps, rather than simply picking one up in 2009 - so we are not "special", lol. In other words, once one gets the gist of how the software interfaces, it is pretty simple, even if not a quick process. I tend to set up desired transfers, and simply walk away. Come back later, and you player will be loaded and ready. Another tip is if you have a slow (old) computer as I do, 4.X versions will lock up much less and run much faster than 3.X's for whatever reason.BTW, you may also want to consider a later Sony flash players, as some of them will handle drag and drop. A compromise for people that are able to use SS correctly would be the Sony NW-E10X flash players which are virtually a (play only) counterpart to the HI-MD's, as they handle the same ATRAC's, Wav. and MP3....no more, no less. But those will still require SS proficiency.

sfbp
Forget all the advice about getting standalone version from here and needing version 4.2 of SS.Your version 2.0 is a valuable antique, I am not surprised you are frustrated with it.First go to the proper place to get sony download which is here:Link for SS4.3 downloadIf there's problems with that, try talking to someone here about a standalone installer. But this should do the trick and is probably done by everyone except a very few.Good luck!
brian10161
Sonicstage 2.0 was nothing but trouble for me, I almost abandoned MD before I found 3.4 on this site when I first joined. Now I'm on 4.3 and man its great. It's not the most intuitive, yes, but its better than iTunes imo.The controls on the older pre HiMD models (the NE410 and my NF520D) are not the greatest, but they work fine when you get to know the unit. The RH1 is a little weird because half the controls are on the body and the other half are on the remote, so you do need the remote to use the RH1. But as I said, you get to know it. I love my RH1 now, I wouldn't use anything else. My iPod is just sitting, so I might give that to my brother soon or leave it with my clock radio dock. And drag and drop does not work for files on any unit. You need SS to work with the player.
