Transferring ATRAC music from PS3 to RH1

I imported a bunch of CDs into my Playstation 3 using ATRAC 256kbps, and I was able to transfer one of the music files to my RH1. Now, the PS3 only recognized the RH1 when a minidisc is Windows formatted (not Hi-MD). It displays it as "USB Data Hi-MD Walkman." It just sees the RH1 as a removable storage device, nothing special. Here's the kicker, I then hooked up the RH1 back to my computer and transferred the music file to "My Music" folder in windows explorer. No copy protection errors, or nothing of the sort. I imported the music file in SonicStage and then reformatted the minidisc to Hi-MD mode, and was able to transfer that music file back to the RH1. No copy protection errors again! Should I be surprised? My question now is, is there any way to analyze and compare ATRAC music on the PS3 versus those ripped in SonicStage? Could there be a difference in sound quality? I would be happy to send the file to anyone willing to do analysis, and I can also use a different bitrate if it helps. Playstation 3 can import in ATRAC, MP3 and AAC.

Cool, what do your ears tell you from the initial file, and the final?

My guess is they sound pretty much the same, let us know,

Since the files are being uploaded via Winblows explorer, and not SonicStage, that's why no copy protection is applied. It's been moved as raw data, and not "music data" from within the HI-MD's internal music file-system.

It's as if you had ripped a CD in your computer and had un-selected the option to add copy protection.

Just make sure that you remove copy protection from the files you uploaded via SonicStage to the computer. SS adds copy protection automatically when you do so. Probably to keep the worry bags from Sony pictures happy, of course.
