mgillespie
I gather most of the posts here are from technically literate users, as you pretty much have to be, just to use Connect or SonicStage, and dodge all the problems that plague these programs. How on earth to "regular" joe bloggs users cope? I'm figuring they don't and simply return the units for refund. I consider myself technically literate (I work as software enginner myself), yet due to annoying problems with duplicate entries, crashes, slowdowns, I have deleted my library 5 times, and reformatted the NW-A3000 3 times... Everything is currently working fine (apart from the obvious lack of Top100,History, ArtistLink), but fear that every time I add new content, it will screw everything up again.A simple task like adding a M3U playlist, is enough to screw my NW-A3000, that only a re-format another 18 hour transfer marathon will sort out. ( see post about adding M3U creates duplicates in library, and device).
Ascariss
you're so paranoid. Like I've mentioned a lot of time, I have no problems with CP, but making a playlist in the program is a bit time consuming since I have to look through the entire library to find the songs while using a m3u file from winamp takes seconds to make.If it was for the ability to import m3u lists, I would freak since I use it all the time, and it takes around 20 seconds or so to import a list of around 200 or so songs. Transfer is instant over to the unit and if u edit the playlists in CP, they will be edited on the player as well.No harm in trying, but you're not using CP, so don't blame me if you use sonicstage and you have to reformat it. The regular Joes would return the Sony, and stop by Apple store to get an iPod. Unfortunately, the iPod is not completely fool proof either (blame it on iTunes+quicktime), so regular Joe will return that too, and get a cheap sandisk/samsung player, which are MTP, and don't require additional software with WinXP+WMP10.And Sony execs are confused why they're loosing in portable audio business. I want a 40GB with video capability and the ability for direct transfer of mp3s. I hate the sole proprietary software DAPs. So many problems its like choosen worse or even more worse. Connect caused me many more problems that SonicStage did. Although looking at the comments for 1.04, I am tempted to try it again. I am pretty sure I will end up formatting the device after Connect has done it's stuff.
MDX-400
I still quite firmly believe this is the exact reason these players have not yet been released by Sony USA. Sony USA knows people are going to be complaining like crazy, returning products, possible lawsuits, etc...However I think SS is fine--everyone can use that. CP on the other hand has waay more many problems/complaints. Sony USA has released lots of units that used SS, from NetMD to the HD5 and flash players. As soon as CP and the A series came a long, guess what? Sony USA refused, lol.

mgillespie
Yup ..for the same reason Sony didn`t release A3000 in India , when most of the Asian countries got A-series ..They would have lost all the reputation if they would have launched that product here ..Sony have already destroyed their reputation for mobile devices in Europe and Asia, they can't afford to destory it in other regions also, hence why the NW-A series has not been launched elsewhere.A side note, I reformatted my NW-A3000 (for the 5th time now), removed SonicStage, installed Connect 1.04, reloaded my library, transferred songs, and things seem to be working the best they ever have. Whilst it's not safe to say Connect is a joy to use, and has serious design flaws like lack of muplitple track editing, and other major "GUI Bloopers", it does at least seem to function.Unless it all goes badly wrong, I should be able to cope, until a Connect/SonicStage hybrid software arrives, which has the best of both worlds.Personally, I would have preferred to see a NW-A series update to SonicStage rather than a fixed Connect, but hey, I have a unit that finally works, 5 months after I purchased it!! hp1975
I dont understand all these 'problems' and re-formats with sonic stage? I have used 3.4 with my A3000 from day one and have not had one single problem. Its great, loads quickly, rips cds in a couple of minutes etc. OK I only use ATRAC and dont have an existing library of MP3 but so what?I also would rather see artist link etc added to SS than another update to the dodgy CP. Even if they dont I will stick with SS cos it works and who needs top 100 and artist link anyway..they're gimmikz! For what its worth.HP

Ascariss
CP is so much simpler to use though lol.
