My wife has had a Walkman NWZ-A818 for several years and been very happy with it.
She last used it in September last year on holiday in Greece and since then it has been in her bedside drawer. It worked fine on holiday and was not dropped or damaged in any way. She took it out of the drawer last night and found that the back of unit had popped open, as if something has warped inside and forced it open. I tried to close it up, thinking that it may be like the back of a mobile phone which slides off, but this didn't work and indeed it is secured by two tiny screws at the bottom, so is obviously not meant to have the back removed.
We left it over night and this morning it seems to have closed up a bit more though there is still a gap between the back cover and the unit itself.
The drawer she kept it in is not close to a heat source and the room itself is not over warm.
Has anyone else had this happen to them and how have they resolved it? The unti is now well out of warranty and I am not expecting Sony to admit there is a design fault.
