sescoscuba
There is an expected duration for an optical lens in portable machines? I guess it's different between the recorders and players. This duration is different between the various models of MD? Thanks to those who will want to answer me. Azureal
So Sergio, the "lens" is the glass or plastic optical portion of the laser mechanism. The lens can scratch and possibly melt, but in reality with care the "lens" itself will never wear out. The issue I think you are concerned with is the laser which is the electrical light amplification device and generates the beam which is then focused by the lens. It is the laser, which is typically a semiconductor diode based electronic device that can lose it's ability to generate a powerful enough beam to provide the requisite signals for reading or writing the optical portion of the disc. This doesn't really answer your question though. You want to know how long the laser will last in some specific model perhaps. This is hard to say, how often is it used, is it a model with a history of long life or a history of laser problems? There are a lot of variables to consider in order to answer the question accurately ...

Sorry Each electronic component, when it is produced, has the standard features of duration (in hours) or cycles of operation. I was interested to know, approximately, the standard minimum life of a laser. I think standards are applicable to all manufacturers of laser diodes. Thank you for your prompt reply Have a nice day Sergio
Esphynol Jmd
How to know the lens is going to die or faulty? any sign of it? Im asking this because I have a portable MD after cleaning the lens, it still giving "mute track" for about 5-10 secs for a multiple times during the song..and also sometimes skipping track.. sfbp
This behaviour will, in my experience, never be due to a dirty lens.
Esphynol Jmd
So meaning the lens is going to die? It happened to my E-55.
