MZ-R50 not marking tracks

I've had this unit for +10 yrs and it has worked flawlesly. I've recently starting recording discs on it after yrs of only playing. It's not marking the tracks automatically. I can mark them manually, but that's a pain. I don't remember having to set anything to make it do it automatically. Any ideas why. I'm using Optical in.

Thanks for the responses. I've been thru the manual. I am using the sync recording which is a great feature. It should create a track after sound levels drop below a certain level for a certain amout of time and it used to. I'm recording from a cd transport using optical out. After +10 plus ysr of excellent performance, I'm not too worried about this, just inconvenient. Any kind of reset maybe ?

I have found optical-signal-based track marking to be a somewhat variable feast, TBH. On my favourite device for recording, it sometimes divides correctly, sometimes not at all, and sometimes too often, depending in the latter case on the level I specified for division. Not sure if that's an option on the r50 though.

Ah.... light dawns. You cannot combine manual recording level and track sync on some models. Certainly the R50. You might want to try turning off Manual record (which should apply only to microphones on that unit, I will allow) before you start any of this.

As you say some sort of reset may be needed. There's no harm in taking all power sources out over night just to see if that fixes it.

Finally, can you try some different optical sources? Perhaps there's some noise or jitter on the optical signal (that is new) that is causing the base level between tracks to be higher than the (predetermined, non-adjustable) level where the machine recognises a new track by the silence.

Try also listening your CD with your PC and recording in real time with Winamp (Wincue plugin) or foobar2000 (Post track silence plugin), you can set a TWO seconds silence between each track and be sure you will have a T-mark after each track while recording on your MD. I hope you have a optical output on your PC, more convenient.
