sescoscuba
Firstly I would like to point out my lack of knowledge of the deck machines. I read what is written on 980/780 but I ask myself: various 333es, 555es, have better sound than the 980? Between the deck of Sony, which models can be truly regarded as the best? Thank you to replay Have a nice day to all Sergio
PhilippeC
various 333es, 555es, have better sound than the 980? As I had owned a JA555ES that I finally brought back in Vietnam, I was rather close to make that test with my JB980. Sadly I sold it directly to phamcu. I f you cannot find or afford a Sony ES deck (50, 555 ,333 ,30 ,22 ,20 & 3), the best after that is the Sony QS with 980 and 940 (Stephen said that this one has a real 24bit optical out). Here is the list if you search decks with MDLP and optical out: MDS-JE640 MDS-JE770 MDS-JE780 (has Type-S also, and USB *in*) MDS-JB930 MDS-JB940 MDS-JB980 (Has Type-S also, and USB *in*) MDS-JA333ES MXD-D400 (the only Combo deck with MDLP and optical out, also the only combo with Type-S)
sfbp
note: it's relatively easy to add optical out to MXD-D40 and MXD-R5C, both are CXD-2662 Type-R so as good as the last Pro decks Sony made. I did it in each case with help and advice from Camron in Portland.
sescoscuba
Thank you to PhilippeC and sfbp; are really expansive! 1199 euro ! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sony-MDS-JA50ES-MiniDisc-Desk-mit-Zubehor-/150900000155?pt=DE_TV_Video_Audio_MD_Player_Recorder&hash=item232257459b
sfbp
I heard that the JA20ES is better than the JA50ES. But I have no first hand experience. Jim is suspicious of some of Sony's "upbranding" (to coin a word). As long as you have optical out I don't (personally) think you need the fancy DACs that you're paying for in most of those models. The equivalent is found in any decent receiver that has optical in (for example Sony and Onkyo, I have one of each).
