sfbp
I want one! I have been considering how to back up large quantities of data for a while. This fills a significant hole. Bluray is available but too small in capacity. Bravo Sony
cwall1108
Yours for a mere $7k: http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/product-ODSD55U/ That's exceedingly steep for my needs.

But something less costly and better supported will come in due course, methinks. What I am not clear is whether this thing holds 12 x 1.5TB or whether 1.5TB is made up of 12 120GB blurays. Sony_Fan
If Sony can reduce this to the size of a standard MiniDisc, imagine the amount of music it can hold. This new type of MiniDisc could be used a new "B-MD" recorder/player.

Sadly that capacity is also limited to 1.5tb WORM (Write once, read many). 1.2tb with read/write is due September 2013.

Even at 1/5 the size, it would be a 240GB Minidisc, Sony can still revive this format with this type of read/write storage.
mdsince93'
This is 100% professional application storage solution. You would have to wait a few years for the price to drop !

If you re-read (I just did) the specs, it says that each cartridge holds 12 optical disks. I think that means the 1.5TB happens to contain 12 Blu-ray disks. Also found what looks to be an early release regarding this format with the cartridge opened. http://www.hughsnews.ca/sony-unveils-disc-archive-storage-system-0026613
