The best to do is to use a good sound card (external for a laptop) with an optical input (Toslink) if you have a MD deck. If you only have a portable MD unit, just a good minijack to minijack cable. JPKOALA Posted October 22, 2013 Report Share Posted October 22, 2013 Yes line out from Mini Disc to Laptop.Watch your levels depends on how 'hot' you want your music to be Hot IE Push your levels to the limit without distorting the sound. Also you could try Audicity Software (Freeware) which is pretty good but depending on you experience of recording you could add various sweeting effects ie compression etc,etc. If you have little knowledge of recording then try various levels as you experiment with what you consider to be the best sound your ears will tell you that. You may not want to hear it but until 2006 Sony had a genuine technical problem or thirteen, with uploading data from the legacy Md format. The Mz-Rh1 will do it. But even that proved to be a bit fragile with the "standard" (haha) USB architecture. Earlier models absolutely cannot. It's a hardware limitation, effectively. No one can reprogram the firmware on old NetMD to cstch up with the technological advances. Remember that when Sony came up with MD, most hard drives contained less than 1 MD. msteeln Posted October 23, 2013 Author Report Share Posted October 23, 2013 Thanx guys, my last indulgence with MD was to get an RH1 because it was supposedly able to upload, so that bit of thinking/luck may be in my favor, but what is my next step in getting the optimum chances of a good transfer? I have the soft/hardware goodies that came with the unit, do I need to get that installed first? Will the manual guide me thru the rest or are there quirks I need to be aware of? Should it all fail and I'm forced to 'line out', will there be loss of sound quality? I've waited years to get this going so I appreciate your help in finally end running the frustration of SONY and my own tech ignorance.
