A few years ago I updated the firmware of my minidisc HiMD MZ-NH10. It was during a update of Sonic Stage.

During the update ther was a error. Result: the display of my MZ-NH10 always says "No disc". But there is no trouble with my discs.

Now after a few years I fount back my minidisc MZ-NH10 and I want start using it again.

Does anyone have firmware for my Sony MZ-NH10 ? Or another solution?

Let's try a different tack...

1. Where did you find out how to update firmware. Link please. As far as I am aware no MD player or recorder has ever had a way to be updated.

(Regulars beware!)

2. What is the MZ-NH10? Picture please.

I think I know where this is going.

Perhaps I am mistaken and was it just a update of Sonic Stage. I remember that at the same time there was an update for JAVA. On my screen there came a error message and from that moment I had on my MZ-NH10 the message "No disc".

Could it be a coincidence???

Pure coincidence, I think. There's no update to firmware that we know of.

IF you got unlucky, there's likely noone in the world who can help, unless you speak fluent Russian and don't mind hanging around a certain forum (I can find the details for you). However, even for those guys, I never heard of procedures to load complete firmware, only the parameters for it.

If i were you I would become an expert in initializing these things. The service manual is here for your use. You will need gear. Expensive gear.

Good luck.

you probably can´t see this without disassemble the unit.

i´ll take pictures of an opened RH10 and post these so that you have a clue of what area iam talking about

Hey Phillipe if i may ask.. why do you recommend to contact Jim? Idk why but my Mails i send him didn´t get read even after months. And i read somewhere in the Forums this had not only happen to me.

This is probably not a big issue so i think he can find out himself.

Jim's email has been up and down over the years.

This does indeed sound like a Jim-problem. I note, in passing, that the mechanism of this unit is the same as in all HiMD units except the MZ-RH1. Not the circuit board, however. When in doubt, look for the most detailed information in the MZ-NH900 service manual. It contains some details that accidentally got left out of the service manuals for some models.

I am still puzzling over the problem you had - clearly the unit was working and then suddenly did not. Could it be you did the famous "unlock trick" (sorry, a euphemism) where the unit is powered off in the middle of recording, and you could not figure out how to get the disk out?

Thanks for all ideas, everybody!

@Punkrockaddict: could you make some pictures for me? That would help a lot, I think.

@sfbp: I didn't have the famous "unlock trick" as far as I know. The only thing I did was an update and at the same time I got a message for an updat for Java and I did this update at the same time. After a few minutes I read a fault message (I don't know which message) about not being able to complete the update. And immediately There was the message on my MZ-NH10 "No disc".

I tried more than 10 discs. No result.

Should I trie to use a screwdriver to open the unit?
