Hello everyone. I am a minidisc lover from 1998 and until now I didn't gave up and have no mp3 in my pc. Recently I bought one Mz-rh1 and I realize that buying 1gb disk it's really a problem. Beside ebay do you have other sources? Do you know if any company beside sony produces this discs? Thank you.

I'm sorry but they are really hard to get. Sometimes you can get lucky by regularly checking on eBay or similar. They were never widely available as my Sony shop only ever carried one twin pack at an expensive £14.99. What supried me is the speed at which the blank disks were withdrawn from sale - under a year from the end of MZ-RH1 production. I don't know why that was.

I agree with PhilippeC, I use standard 80 minute MD in Hi-MD mode. I have dozen or so Hi-MD 1GB disks and never use them.

However, I still prefer real-time optically recorded ATRAC SP, 80 minutes per disk baby, never sounded better to my old ears!

I picked these up on Amazon.com with free shipping recently, The Sonys were $16.50 USD per ten pack and the Victors were $17.50. Not a terrible deal these days at all. Like I really needed 40 more blanks!

In my opinion, the Hi-MD discs that were once upon a time a reasonable deal (around 6-7 USD a piece) are not anymore, since Sony stopped (awfully fast) their production, worth their price. A 80 mn disc using Hi-MD format stores 300 Mb and is much less than 1/4 the price of 1GB Hi-MD discs. Also, for some obscure reason, labels for Hi-MD are veru small and makes the format quite inconvenient, after all.

I completely agree smteacsmo. I have not purchased any 1GB Hi-MD disks since around 2005 and I got them for 6.95 USD each on Amazon. The cost now is crazy. You can still find new sealed MD80 blanks for 1.70 each while eBay sellers are getting (or asking) upwards of 30 - 40 dollars each.

I just use the MD80s and get along fine!
