cauldron
This is just amazing - Sony actually came up with something the way I say it should be made! I've been waiting for this forever. If you ignore what Sony calls it, this device is literally a PSP without gaming provisions. It's also a spiritual successor to the CLIE brand. I bet a lot of PSP hardware went into this device, because that'd help with cost and development time.If you don't normally visit Gizmodo, they have a video of the Mylo in action. Dinko
Speaking of Gizmodo, they have a new page up on the mylo and they link to the Sony minisite where you get this:There are multiple ways to transfer music onto your mylo communicator. With the units USB mode set to MSC, you can transfer files via the included SonicStagesoftware or by dragging and dropping files using Windows Explorer. With the USB modeset to MTP you can synchronize audio files via WMP 10.So... this means then that you could theoretically get a Sony music-dedicated DAP that works with both WMP and SonicStage. Not to mention that Sony rediscovered D&D.http://www.learningcenter.sony.us/assets/i...prod/index.htmlfound via http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/wireless/so...live-192953.php
pata2001
I heard the resolution of the screen is ony 320x240, less than the PSP. Video and web browsing would suck. for those who want a video PMP, get the iAudio A2 instead.
SimKill
Let's hope they have ATRAC thingies in'em...and a Sony Stamina battery life. The PSP could use some battery life also...
Xufar
It's nice, that's for sure. Jus tnot comparable to the PSP. Cause the PSP is a gaming device in the first place, remember that That's the big difference. About the specs, compare a few pocket PC's to the PSP. Still, it looks very, very good. Altough I do think it costs a bit too much, for me that is.
Damage
I don't forsee Web Browsing to be a major problem, as it's done using Opera browser. That is, at least ones that are not heavily reliant on AJAX.Add white veneer to it and you can almost call this an iPhone
lamewing
BE AWARE that the USB connection speed on this device (tested it myself) is ONLY USB 1.1. /sigh
MDX-400
^What on earth??? How can they make a device in 2006 that is only USB 1.1 speed? That can't be right?
DSP
Damn...typical sony: very neath hardware (I really love the device's looks and specs) but what on earth is the point of this?!you can only use it's main features when you're near a hotspot or WIFI internet connection. Otherwise, you're just able to watch some vids or listen to some music.I'd prefer a psp over this. PSP can do all the things this thing can. I connect to internet via PSP (with bigger screen!!!), I sent email (gmail) with PSP, I listen to music, I watch vids (bigger screen AND UMD support), I browse photos, I play games and soon there will be VOIP for the PSP and camera (I hope it can function as a webcam as well). Only real advantage Mylo has over PSP is a full-sized keyboard. I'm still hoping this is comming for the PSP.that said, I really still don't understand the point of the Mylo. PSP is cheaper too! for the price of the Mylo you could have a brand new PSP with a 1 or 2 GB MS and perhaps a game or movie. So PSP all the way for me. But as I've said many times before: this is just my opinion still, it's a very cool design! greetz
lamewing
^What on earth??? How can they make a device in 2006 that is only USB 1.1 speed? That can't be right? It is correct. Take a look at the specs for the device. No where is USB 2.0 mentioned and when you try and download a gig of files you will see how slow it is. I took mine back to Fry's yesterday - VERY DISAPPOINTED.Pros:Plays music mp3 and atrac - mp3s are drag/dropPlays videosDisplays photosDisplays text filesWorks well as a Skype phoneText messaging works as describedNice screen quality and brightnessremoveable batteryCons:Videos require software to convert files which ISN'T included in the unit. Why? Same as with the PSP.Cannot connect with weak wifi signals. 1 bar is iffy.No headphone jack. You MUST use the included mic adapter. Don't loose it.USB 1.1 speeds. WHY? WHY? WHY?Keys are too small. This would be okay if this was a multi-country release, but this is a US ONLY device.Rear plastic feels thin and cheap. The front is very nice and solid plastic. The sliding hinge (I tried two of them) isn't sturdy at all.Missing featrue found on the PSP: No RSS support.Keys aren't backlit.I really do understand what Sony wants to do with the Mylo, but is is going to be a bust. TOO EXPENSIVE for the features offered. This looked like a wonderful product and it could have been if Sony would simply:1. Lower the price.2. Improve build quality (I am old and don't like disposable electronics)3. Add USB 2.0. Absolutely necessary for transferring vids and music.4. Make the keys backlit and a bit larger.5. Add more video codec support and remove the cryptic PSP video file system (MPROOT).
