the A3000 is not being made anymore I think, in canada it is no longer sold, and sony UK doesn't have it on their website for a while. I am sure there are some units still left but not directly from sony or suppliers.

here is the thread I was looking for:

http://www.atraclife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1543

The A2000 went on sale in dec at the sony store, well that is when units arrived, first week of dec. a 4-5 month product is a bit poor for sony since if a replacement is due this fall/winter (most likely the latter for christmas) then sony will be without a DAP in the high capacity area to combat apple.

anyways, I would wait on your end and not buy a A3000 now.

Yes, the A series wasn't a great success in canada, or europe is my guess, sony needs something better and more competitive.

Don't waste your money on an almost year old product. If you really need a large capacity player and can't wait, perhaps look at some of the creative ones.

I'm quite happy with my A3000 player. I got it near the end of May 2006, from the local Sony Store. In fact, I liked it so much I later bought the neoprene pouch, the cradle, and the speaker dock!

I'm disappointed that Sony isn't making them anymore, but not surprised. As a company they never seem to stick to a product design for very long, particularily when in a highly competitive sector like digital audio players.

Perhaps they feel that this is the right way to do business, since nothing so far in the Walkman line has unseated Apple's iPod. Sony appears to be trying to market on brand-name rather than a particular product, such as the iconic iPod. Example: put the last five Walkmans and iPods on a table in front of a typical buyer, but with no brand name visible. The iPods are instantly recognized as such, but the Sony walkmans? They all look so different I doubt the average person would even know they were all Sony.

I think they need to brand a device as "The Walkman", and improve on it over time, as opposed to jumping ship every few months with a totally new device.

You can't stand still in the mp3 business, too many competitors and new technologies every year, standing still with products and keeping them longer is a bad idea, and I am sure sony knows that.

the first few offerings from sony in the hdd market were not the greatest (or worst) but didn't get much exposure here in canada, I hardly see people with sony mp3s players, unless its an odd discman, or possibly the older E series of mp3s players. They're not even on the sonystyle website, only the newer ones. Possibly the new flash players on sale might dent some apple sales but I don't think they will.

Hopefully sony will announce some new products and safe us all from apple's horrible ways.

the hd5 was and still is a very good product, so you are wrong in asuming sony makescrap players

:blink::blink: Uhm, where did I say sony makes crappy mp3 players? read my post again and you will see I never mentioned the word crap here. Didn'tthe HD-5 have no ability for playlists? I recall people having to have double files for playlists? Same for HD-3?

By no means are the sony mp3 players crap, but sadly for a company like sony, they are not up to their usual standards and nowhere near what sony could have released.

Sony has to take the leap forward to become a market leader in technology and new ideas for DAPs, otherwise they can forget to ever beat or compete on even level with apple.

Didn'tthe HD-5 have no ability for playlists?

Nah, the NW-HD5 has playlists. One of the reasons why I almost swapped my 'malfunctioning' NW-HD1 for the NW-HD5 (long story).

But they only had one colour, and that was Red. So I kept my NW-HD1.

Hmm . . . you can't buy the NW-A3000 from Sony Style online. I wouldn't be surprised if I could still find one in a shop, though. They still have the NW-HD1 for sale at a local Dick Smith.
