Hi madleet3

I haven't tried it as yet just going by the instructions, but it does say that each track can be tagged manually in sonicstage.

I hope everyone is enjoying their NW-S70X series.
Yes ,we Are

2) As for the Japanese model, the headphones must be connected to longer wire* (which is supplied and nice quality) because actually length of the headphones is very short. However, this can get heavy and cause annoying discomfort on the left ear due to the weight of the connecting point.

*It may not apply to U.S.A and other models.

My NW-S703F was also supplied with an Extension cord .

ok yup, i checked back with the sony store as I was also looking for the neckstrap, and the person there told me that the earphones are covered under warranty.. since they dont sell that earphone right off the shelf. :D

That's good to hear... Since this earphone must be expensive

do you guys know if there is some way to save your playlist in sonic stage? (save as in i mean export your playlist out or some other way incase say for example i had to format my computer)

and i found out that you cant transfer songs from another computer onto your sf706 cuz of drm issues sigh...

Correct me if I am wrong, isn't the gapless issue only relevant to lossy compression format?

Since the NW-S700 series support linear PCM playback, I believe it supports gapless play back of linear PCM :)

Hi im new here and am planning to buy NW-S706F. Does the noise cancelling function ONLY work with the earphone that come with the player?

Yes,The inbuilt "Noise Cancelling" function will only work with the supplied earphones (MDR-NC022)

aww... I really like my headphone. but I guess I am getting the player anyway. Thanks

Well, you can still use your headphone but you just can't use noise cancel function with it.

I use my MDR-EX90 headphone because it sounds better but when I travel via airplane or subway, I just switch back to the supplied noise canceling headphone.

Thinking about buying this player, so this thread is great to read.

I have a few questions though; can the player also be used as a usb drive for any files without SonicStage ?

Anyone know what the difference is between the NW-S70X series and the upcoming (in europe at least) NW-E01X seris, especially the NW-E016, see http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/01/sony-ke...f-walkman-stick

Also, is SonicStage the only way to handle the music on the player or is anyone using any other software (I mainly use Linux).

Thanks

The WM-PORT is found on the player (similar to Ipods). So, to connect the player to the PC requires the cable, which is supplied. Once the player is connected, you many use the player as a usb drive without using Sonic Stage.

The most important difference between NW-S700 series and NW-E010 series is the built in Noise Canceling feature found in NW-S700 series. The NW-S700 series supplies MDR-NC022 noise canceling headphones (small microphones attached to the each headphone to detect outside noise). Due to this feature, the price is higher than other players. But the price is not really high, since if you were to purchase Noise Canceler separately, this will cost about $100. Also, NW-S700 series has all the necessary parts within the player so one need not carry around outside noise canceler device, which makes life a lot easier.

SonicStage is not the only software to manage NW-S700 series. But if you use linux, I don't know which program is available. Sorry, I am not very familiar with Linux.

But the latest SonicStage 4.3 (as of 2007-3-18) isn't bad as what people say in many sites. Many people have not even used the lastest software but only older version in past years and criticize the SonicStage. The SonicStage isn't the perfect but it does what it is suppose to do. It NO longer forces you to put DRM on your songs, and support many formats without conversion into ATRAC: it supports: MP3, WAV, AAC, WMA, ATRAC Advanced Lossless.

As for the Windows, one software that I know of is available in Japan: it is called Beat Jam 2007, which can be used for Sony Walkmans and other MP3 players from different makers.

Lastly, what engadget says about the price of players is absolutely wrong. So, if you are looking for the price of the player, never believe what you read from that site. To get correct pricing, refer to your region Sony site.

Engadget and others simply convert currency into US Dollars but this does not represent true price.

For example, Engadget and anythingbutipod.com seem to say the NW-A800 is something like $400 but actually the player is in $200 range.

Thank you very much Zizone, that helps me a lot.

Found the 4GB NW-S706F in the UK for £96 delivered but out of stock so we'll see, and £110 elsewhere in stock.

Regards

How do I create playlists?

on the following link, one of the member, theFanboy, wrote simple instructions for the playlist

playlist

"in sonicstage,

in the mylibrary box, on the right side you see a small box to select called create/edit playlist. Select that.

list of current playlist section will open on the right side.

now on left side (my library column), select all the songs you want and click the blue arrow, all selected song list will appear on right side, choose an appropriate name for the current list and select close edit.

now on the left most column, select view as albums/playlist.

my library will show all the playlist.

select appropriate ones, transfer to your device (by theFanboy)."

so basically,

1) click "Create/edit playlist" on the right side.

2) Choose songs for the playlist and transfer. Once you created playlist, close the playlist

3) on the left most column, select view as "albums/playlist"

4) from the "playlist," transfer to your device

I just tried the Recording Cable "WMC-NWR1" that I purchased from the SonyStyle store for $14.99 + Tx - It looks like the on-line store as well of other vendors are out of stock on this too.

Very impressive! I recorded from the 3.5mm jack on my Powerbook (Yes you read right, I am a PowerPC - pre-intel Mac person and I have the NW-S705F 2 GB Walkman. I purchased it on Woot.com for a steal - $49+$5 S&h... I've fallen in love with the PINK Sony work of art, but I loathe the SonicStage software. After years of iTunes ease, I feel that I am being punished for buying a non-Mac product.)

The default bit rate is 128 kbs and the recording process is a breeze. The sound so far has been impossible to find any difference from the MP3s & Atrac files that I managed to load with the BLANKING software! I used a friends PC,....

thx ANGRYBADGER

btw is itt able to ID the track and auto cut off every song and record again or its manual recording?

oh its in atrac format hmm so i guess no way to convert to mp3 format?

Hi madleet3

I haven't tried it as yet just going by the instructions, but it does say that each track can be tagged manually in sonicstage.

The NW-S7x creates a new file each time the source has a break between sound output. For example I recorded tracks from an iTunes playlist and as long as you do not set the tracks to fade out & into one another a, a new file is created.

The tracks can also be deleted (if you have a false start for example) right on the player, without the need to export the tracks to SonicStage.

Hi neseattle

I'm afraid to say I have never used the Linear PCM recording function, so can't comment.
