'OLD' Memory Stick Walkman

As a keen Sony fan ( and a bit of an audiophile )I keep an eye on the discussions in this forum. However, I am beginning to feel a little behind the times with my superb Sony NW-MS7 Walkman. This is enforced by the fact that Sony's European Support website no longer appears to support this product, i.e the link to Memory Stick Walkman support is dead. Does anybody on this forum own a MS Walkman (there are about 5 models in all)? Do I have to ditch this particular piece of technology to save face in this ever competing world of more memory, more battery life and more codec options?............ Incidentally, I also own a NW-HD3 Walkman and I can't tell the diiference between the two on my MDR _EX 71 headphones in terms of sound quality!!!!!!! I suppose I should be honest, I am very tempted by the new NW S700 series and I am looking for some justification to part with the money.

1.Sound quality, 2.a decent pair of earphones, 3.noise cancelation, 4.it has a radio and 5, it's a Sony!!! and if you still have doubts take a look at Stuge's photos in his pictorial. They should give you enough justification lol.

I own two MS Walkmans.. the NW-MS9(64MB) and the NW-MS11 (128MB). I reckon they're both pretty much the same thing except for a higher capacity memory stick and what not... Love both, though the gumstick battery pack and needing the external battery charger was starting to become a 'con' for me. While I don't have a NW-HD3, I do have a NW-HD1, NW-HD5, 2 NW-A3000's, and one NW-A1200, and I must disagree with you about the sound quality. The MSx series of network walkmans sound good on their own merrits, but after using some of the newer ones, I am able to hear a big difference in sound quality, with the new ones sounding more crisp.

But then again, it might be the codecs too, as I use ATRAC 66kbps for the MS ones, and ATRAC3plus 64kbps for the new ones. So that can be like 'comparing apples to oranges'...

I have The NW-S705F, and I think it's just ok.. I kind of liked my NW-E507 a little more. The screen is colored, but it's just a small little colored screen to view album art, and I find that the album art doesnt look that 'crisp' either (it's kinda fuzzy, but the OLEDed text is very sharp!). But as far as sound quality goes, the NW-S700 series will sound MUCH better to you than the NW-MS7. And having really good battery life doesn't hurt, either

What about the NW-E002? I can get one of these at a fairly good price at the moment. I know there are concerns about the display in bright sunlight but my' must have' feature would be for good sound quality.

Also, aznbro85, I think most of the SQ difference between old & new will be down to the codec choice. 66kbps cuts out a lot of high frequencies leaving a very muddy sound while 64 kbps cuts out fewer high frequencies but has more artifacts. I suspect if you were to compare LP2 on two devices you would hear little difference (& better SQ than either of the low bitrate options).

They are quite limited actually, all of them. None of them can handle MS Pro which means non-Pro media only, meaning 128MB is the unfortunate maximum size of memory they can use. I guess none of them were new enough to use MS Pro. Sony later started manufacturing flash players with built-in memory (of which there are many models as we all know) and never bothered to make another MS player that would have supported MS PRO...
