Question

First of all hi everybody, I've been lurking around for quite some time and finally decided to join this great community.

Let me start with couple of questions  Be patient please^^

Small intro first though:

Long time ago I bought the legendary MZ-R37 MD unit, and was simply amazed by the quality of sound (very loud thingy) and construction of that little gadget (well, it was a "little gadget" back then :) ). I put my trust into Sony once again and recently bought an NW-E002 for a ridiculously (did I spell this right ) small price, and Sony amazed me yet again at first glance. Design is great, battery even better, and it's a very cool gadget to have around. But... it happens to be that I live in Europe (Croatia to be more precise) and my player subdues to this uber cool European loudness standard :o . Ergo, the thing is not loud enough for my years-of-drumming-tormented ears. I thought about replacing it, but felt bad for getting rid of this cool player I obviously under-payed.

So, finally the question is: how can I get a bit louder sound? I use the headphones that came with the player, they sound ok but maybe I could get more with another model. Someone told me about Koss The Plug headphones (earbuds), anyone had an experience with those? Or simply recommend smth else.

Nest couple of questions: How can I find out which firmware version my player has? And what do I get with new firmware versions? And, is it possible to update my player with a non-European firmware to squeeze out more juice?

And finally, do European versions of NW-E00x players have different hardware than non-European versions, or is this volume deprivation just a matter of some software adjustment?

Thank you very much for reading probably the longest post I've written in last 5 years.

Cya!

hi, welcome to atraclife! :)

I´m not sure about the volume, on the HDD devices it could be hacked, but don´t know with the flash devices.

About the earphones, I suggest you to buy better earphones.

fore example:

creative EP630/EP-635: great sound for the money and a huge improvement on the standard earphones. they are IEM. (in-ear)

you could go for sennheiser CX300 (don´t recommend sony EX71) or even shure E2C, but that´s a tad higher.

I suggest you´d go with the creatives I just mentioned for starters.

if you want headphones, sennheiser PX100 is a good deal for around 30 euros.

Hi Newbie Pro, go into the Menu> Advanced Menu> Information> number 4 is the version of the firmware on ur player, if u havent done any update, it should be 1.00

How bad is the volume on the Nw e02, I was considering buying one.

Let's just say that some songs play loud, some don't depending on the quality and original loudness of the mp3/wma/whatever. The volume slider goes up to 30, and if it went to 35 player would be great.Or at least 33. You just keep missing those couple of precious dB^^
