Sound volume restriction

Question

I understand that under european law sound levels are restricted. Can anyone please tell me if I purchased the Flash player NWS-706F in the united States if the sound restriction functions would be disabled? For example I do not know what the Milli-watt output is of European models and was wondering if the sound output of USA models would be higher. Similair to that of the HD5 and other MP3 type players. Any advice would be appreciated Thanks jd76.

I don't think you will have a problem woth the volume on the NW-S706F as you would have with the earlier flash players. My NW-S706F is a hell of a lot louder than both my HD5 and A1200, and both have had the volume cap removed.

I don't know why this is a problem at all... you shouldn't put the volume above 16 anyway (AVLS), so why are you worrying about not being able to go from 25 to 31? Start listening at lower volumes and you ears will adjust within less than half an hour so that 16 will sound extremely loud to you. Trust me, you will thank yourself when you get older and won't be deaf....

The volume can be an issue if you are listening to an old recording. I found this with my old NW-E407 when I ripped some older cd's that were recorded in the eighties. It wasn't an issue when listening to the same music files on my HD5 and A1200 as I had removed the volume cap. It's nice to have a little more power to play with when you really need it. With the NW-S706F I usually have it on between 16 and 20, and rarely go beyond 20.

Thanks to all that replied. I have an HD5 and think I have the volume cap removed. It is fine, but do know there are various threads that discuss the whole volume issue and in particular sony and EU laws. I also own a NW-E407 and think the volumes crap. I do not usually listen to stuff too loud. I am an old fart but do like the extra ommph if its there. Also the reply re older CD's is correct these are reecorded at a much lower volume than current cd's so when you transfer them they are not as good. That's one of the reasons I have held off buying. but I'll review my choices after the feedback here..thanks Jd76...

You won't be dissapointed with the NW-S7xx range, the sound quality and volume level is superb. :)

One thing that I have noticed is that the with the design of the headphones and the noise cancellation the volume does not have to be as loud to enjoy your music. Additionally, the larger drivers seem to give more bass.
