T.W.G_
Hi,I'm a little bit uncertain if I should upgrade to a NW-S700 or NW-A800 for sports.I like the NW-S700 styling very much but the NW-A800 have a much better display. How well is the display of the NW-A800 readable in direct sunlight? IS it readable or does it fade to black and it is hard to read?I currently have a Vaio pocket and its display is suberp even in direct sunlight! 0 markey
I own both the S706 and A806, and can confirm the display on the A806 is far more superior to that of the S706 in direct sunlight. The screen on the S7xx range is OLED while on the A8xx range it is LCD. OLED screens are totally useless in direct sunlight.
0 T.W.G_
Ok, I imagined that. How readable is your A806 in direct sunlight? Is it hard to read like some mobile phones or realy good?
0 markey
It's readable, your not straining your eyes. I would say it's better than most mobile phones.

0 palazzo
Well, I had to go and stand in the shadow of a wall yesterday, which was the first sunny day since I got my new toy.

0 Shinji Ikeda
at max. brightness it's easy to read in direct sunlight...and i'm talking 30 degrees celcius direct sunlightYes, that is correct, but that is when brightness is set to the highest level. Having the NW-A800 series Walkman's brightness at the highest level however reduces battery life. This should not be a problem, if you are only using it for audio playback. At the lower brightness levels it is harder to read in direct sunlight. At the lowest barely readable, but good enough to change the setting to increase the brightness level. 0 Jrome
true...but when you think about it...it starts at 30 hours..which is better than the others..so even with lowered battery life...it would still b a little higher..or at least at par with the other mp3 players in terms of battery life..and it's not like you're out in the sun for the whole day..so putting it a little brighter..for a while wont do much damage

So if u dont try the max. brightness in time u might not have a chance to see it =Plol it sounds scary but it's a slow process tho Edited June 14, 2007 by AntiPod
0 T.W.G_
if you have to turn brightness higher, it does NOT seem to have such a good screen as the vaio pocket?!The vaio pocket features a reflective display which is super easy to read even if the sun shines directly onto it. However, compared to the S706 the display is readable in sunlight and we have had some pretty good weather here in the UK recently.
