Volume instability inside the CKH.NWA800 clear hard case

Question

I posted this in the wrong place so re-posting here. Sorry.

Is anyone else using the CKH.NWA800 clear hard case with the 808? I just got mine, looks great, fits great. Unfortunately I've just blown my ears out. . . twice - as when I increase the volume, the slider goes straight to 30 without stopping! Real shock to my ears and I can't even hear what I'm writing

I've taken the front cover off and the volume works fine, one notch at a time - but as soon as I put the front cover on, and before I've even clicked it into place - the volume just goes straight to max. It doesn't happen when I lower the volume, only when I increase it.

There must be part of the cover that's pressing on the control, but as it's plastic I can't 'stretch' it.

Is anyone else having this problem or is it just my case?

I have this case and have not had any problems whatsoever. Have you tried to look at the inside of the case where it touches the volume slider on the player?

Thanks for the replies. I guess it must only be my case.

Narkeuk, I'll try looking at the inside of the case, but because it's hard plastic, it's difficult to get a good look.

It's a really nice case, just a bit 'dangerous' for my ears at the moment.

Thanks

Haaha - finally figured out what it was. When the cover is put on, the volume is activated immediately going straight to max.

The left hand side of the cover is 'pushing' the player over to the right and pressing on it!

Must be the tiniest measurement discrepancy causing it. My ears are really really thumping!

For one thing, you should turn on AVLS as a safety precaution, unless you usually listen to music higher than that (?)

The instructions for the hard case says to slide the walkman "docking the VOLUME buttons." Hope this helps.

I didn't see those instructions, I just glanced at the diagram. Can you explain says to slide the walkman "docking the VOLUME buttons." I feel really dim at the moment due to my 'burst' eardrums and can't make sense of the simplest of things.

Are you saying there's a special way to slot the front cover on? I just clicked it into place from bottom to top, but whatever way I placed it, it just pushed against the volume all the time.

Sorry to be so thick, but what do you mean 'docking the volume buttons'? There's just one button, the top part is to increase, and the lower part to decrease the volume. How do I 'dock' it??

Yes, AVLS is a brilliant idea, wasn't sure if the 808 had it as haven't explored that far yet, and I don't need it above 15 anyway.

Thanks for your help. I've already packed the case to send back, but if I can understand what you meant about the instructions (which are now packed!) I might take it out again and try it

To activate AVLS, go to Settings > Common Settings > AVLS (Volume Limit) > On.

Sorry juli, I think I just misread your post, I just thought you were putting the player in wrong. When I read "docking the volume buttons" in the instructions, I took it as when you place the player into the BACK part of the case, you don't just push it into the case straight down, but rather hold the player at 45 degrees, letting the volume button on the player and the volume buttons on the case to touch, then drop the other side of the player into the case. Sorry about that

Well I set AVLS (thanks for the reminder!) which is loud enough with the headphones. I think I damaged my ears, the volume went to max so fast it took my brain a second to register what was happening. I thought I must have pressed it myself so I wasn't expecting it the second time, it was a killer!!

I waited for a reply about the 'docking volume' thing so didn't unpack the case yet. I'll get a replacement. Thanks for the help

im sure you did no permanent damage to your ears as the exposure was on;y a couple of seconds. only prolonged exposure to high decible sounds is likely to cause damage.

so enjoy your music!! :)

Here's the instructions:

CKHNWA800_instruct.jpg

The text reads:

How to attach the clear case

  1. Put the Walkman into the clear case (See Fig A.)

Slip the Walkman into the clear case docking both VOL buttons.

  2. Attach the front cover down until it clicks. (See Fig B.)

Tip

The strap can still be attached with the Walkman in the clear case.

Note

A charging cradle, etc. cannot be used with the clear case at the same time. Use them after removing the Walkman from the clear case.

How to remove the clear case

Hold the clear case and insert a finger in the WM-PORT gap, and then remove the front cover. (See fig. C).

Notes

  • When removing, makes ure the Walkman does not pop out of the clear case.
  • If the rubber buttons of the clear case come off, reattach them oriented to the same way as the Walkman buttons.

It was a faulty case. Must be a million-to-one shot I ended up with it! There was a minute discrepancy in the fitting on the left-hand side which once placed - forced the walkman to the right and set off the volume.

Funnily enough, the online store I bought it from said they'd replace it if I packaged it exactly as new - after a bit of delving in the bin I found the card insert so packed it 'as new' and then wrote on the back 'FAULTY' just in case he planned on selling it to someone else. . . and if it comes back to me again. . . well

Should have replacement next week, it's a nice case, nicer than it looked on screen

Thanks again
