Menu settings have been changed strangely

Question

I got a NW-A808 and I'm very pleased with it. I have updated to firmware v1.02. Unfortunately, some or I can say major settings are just vanished right after I'd made the update. For instance in shuffle menu time machine feature has gone.Only shuffle all appears. Moreover play history has also disappeared and various other settings are just disappeared as well.

I contacted to help desk and they told me after firmware updates some settings might disappear and they adviced me to do the factory settings whereas I couldn't find that feature anywhere in menu.

Could you please help, what's going on.How can I revert to the old menu appearance that I had in previous version(1.01)

Thanks.

Tanneth, go to the front page/home where all the icons are, select 'settings' bottom left-hand corner - then select 'common settings' and either scroll down to 'Reset all settings' or scroll up. The option isn't visible unless you scroll up or down as 'Time display format' is the last option you'll see unless you continue scrolling. You won't lose any of your songs, just remember to use the 'reset all settings' option - not the 'format' option!

Hope that helps

Oh - that doesn't make any sense. There's already been a recent firmware upgrade to 1.02, so I can't see there'll be another one soon.

Has anyone else had that problem?

Sounds a little bizarre, I'm on firmware 1.02 and have not had any options disappear.

Yes I agree this is really odd. If I make an order of the disappearing options;

-Time Machine Shuffle and the other shuffle option I can't remember it.In total it should be 3. Only "Shuffle All" is visible.

-Play History(music files)

-Song Rate

these are the things I can remember at the moment.

The problems listed above are related to 'Simple Mode' and 'Advanced Mode'. The features described as missing are those activated when 'Advanced Mode' is set in Sonic Stage. Having installed firmware 1.02, I like juli have not encountered this problem. Please ensure that 'Advanced Mode' is set in Sonic Stage, and select transfer to 'ATRAC Audio Device'. The next time you reconnect to Sonic Stage the libraries on your NW-A800 series Network Walkman will be work.

Thank you very very much. All my settings got back now. I forgot to mentioned about Simple Mode, yes it was in Simple Mode and in Sonic Stage I unchecked the Intelligent Feature part so that was the cause of everything.

So thanks again for your help.

I had the same/similar problem with my 2 808's!! ( Mentioned in another thread - but maybe worth repeating - sorry, that's not meant to be having a "dig" at the original poster!!)

The missing /different features - like "rating" etc are in Advanced mode but not Simple mode. As Shinji Ikeda says - it's a setting in Sonic Stage when you tranfer music that sets your 800 to be in one state or the other. But I first thought that under tools/options in Sonicstage it would be the "simple" setting. It's not!! That's just to put a "simple skin on for the "look" of Sonicstage. What you need is the "intelligent features" tick box - which is in the Transfer settings /advanced tab. If you tick "yes" then all the year/rating etc details is transferred too. (and your player is then in advanced mode. ) If transferred originally with that off - then player is in simple mode. I dont think there's any way to "switch mode on/off"!? I think you have to "retransfer" to do that. ( Correct me if i'm wrong!)

PS Am very very happy with my 808's. Use one mainly for videos on bus/train - 2nd one for music when walking/running. Excellent sound and build etc etc. Got Sony leather case on one - but the Noreve leather is much better(IMHO) -though expensive I think worth it!

Regards.

To clarify just but looking at the "Transfer"-"ATRAC Audio Device" will update/change the modes between Advance and Simple on the NW-A800, NW-S700 and NW-S600 series Network Walkmans. I am not aware if other models have the Intelligent features, but if they do then it would work the same say.

It intelligent that Sony has buried the setting the feature, since it is something that should not be changed frequently. It could be suspected that the Intelligent features reduce transfer times.

I will have to verify the need to retransfer tracks, but I suspect that this is not need.
