NW-S700 vs NW-E010 vs NWD-B100 series

Goodmorning from Greece.

I am holder of an old wm-fx423 cassette-radio player and a mz-r55 minidisc player

and i desided to come into DAPs world.After so much searching in your site's pages and after so much reading of your posts,there is not doubt that most of you,are fans of the wonderful s700 series.The reason that i am typing this post,is that i wonder if somebody of you,has do a real sound comparison test,between these 3 art models of Sony.

I will not hide that I bought the 2GB nwe-015 for 85 euros,but i went it back,because i found somewhere else the 4GB nw-s706 for 95euros.But before i returned it,i had the time to play with it and i realized that the sound quality was very rich and clarity with my mdr-q55 earpuds and even with the terrible cheap earpuds that it was included in the box.Then I was thinking to keep it and buy a pair of mdr-ex90,for full sound quality experience(but it was about 70-80euros more).

But as i was reading your posts and i already had seen the s706 price and reviews,i changed my mind because i would have some extra pros like more cappacity,noise cancel function,a very good pair of earpuds(expensive if you buy seperately),much bigger battery life and i supposed that it would be the perfect packet for this value.

Finally I bought the s706 and i was very proud for the good deal.I went home,I charged it,i loaded with songs and i turned it on.I can say that i really felt disapointment with the sound quality.With the build in earpuds i recieved muffled sound,not so vividness as i expected and some hiss at the backround(even if you have close the noise cancel function).With my mdr-q55 was so and so.You are not feeling that you are "in the sound".I think that nwe015 had better sound from this,but i am not sure what would changed if i would try them with a pair of mdr-ex90 and i have not the possibility to compare listening of them together.What do you recommend to do,to change the s706 for the e015?Have you seen any difference to s706 with other earpuds?Is the SQ of mwd-b100 series better?Please,give me your help..

I'm very surprised you found the 706 muffled. I thought the SQ was very very good, so I'm probably not the best person to help you out here.

But I ordered the NWD-B100 for my sister-in-law in Canada (her first ever dap!) and it should be with me tomorrow.

As she wants me to get it ready for her, charging it etc, and loading some albums I have - I'll get the opportunity to test it for myself, so I can give you my opinion on it if you like. However, like I said - I don't think it will be particularly useful as we clearly have very different views on the SQ of the 706.

I found it to be very clear and you found it muffled. . . do you think you might have a faulty one? I haven't known anyone to say it sounded muffled.

Anyway, I'll get to play with the B100 soon enough.

Thanks for your replying.I dont know if it has problem or not,because I dont have another one to compare them.But it seems strange to me that I didnt found the manufactor country,not only back of the device,but also I didnt found something on the box case,only the manuals have the "printed in Malaysia" phrase.But if this was a imitation stuff,I have to say that it would be the better imitation that I have ever seen!(but i think it isnt,because i will have reason to do a prosecution at the big chain store that i bought it,for deception..)

Can any other help me before the 5 days for the returning back the s706 will pass along?

It didn't come today. I ordered it via free super saver delivery so although it was dispatched yesterday - I think it takes an extra day to be delivered.

Where/who did you buy the 706 from?

I bought from a chain store(multirama.gr),here in Greece.

How much was the unit when you bought it? did it come with all the warrenty? Is there any sony store near your house? or a store that sells sony products? If so, perhaps call the stores ask if they have any 700s around and then go and do a sound comparison with your's and the one in the store.

Good point. Also, I initially found it confusing to know if N/C was on or off. If it's on - the icon appears on the play menu screen along with the other info, song title, artist etc. If the icon's not there, it's not activated.

No,there is not difference in sound quality with or without open the noice cancelling choice.The only improvement when you are closing it,is that the hiss is not so loud.

I will made a test as i have heard that the earpuds neads to "burning" first,until they will give the maximum of their sound quality,so i will left the player all night open,on maximum volume position! Dont worry,I have the fire extinguisher beside the bed..

Does it exist? Will i see any improvement? We will see...

hmm, the thing is, I am not sure if you need to condition the headphones with loud volume. I think it says that the headphones improve as you use them, regardless of what volume you use. I could be wrong though. But I don't think the volume would be low because of the headphones.

what headphones are you using?

Do you have access to another camera that you could use to take higher resolution photos of the unit. To be honest I've not seen any fake sony mp3 players yet, not fake but knock offs of current models.

the power of s7 is in its equalizer, play around different settings and you can customize it to a wide range.

I have set to heavy and VPT studio ON....I am lovin it. Preloaded settings is bit soft, I was not much happy until I used above settings....

I wud recommend using NC on, once u get use to it u will never go back.

Yes indeed. NC on, customise your eq and turn on the VPT. My favourite is Arena

I am still waiting. It was dispatched on the 13th with an estimated delivery date of the 15th - so it is now late!!

noice cancelling will only work out well if you are on the streets, I can actually listen at the volume 5 with the earphones stuffed properly on a bus, where I usually listen at a 10-12 volume level
