Ok,I will upload some pictures in 5 minutes.The store is Multirama,big chain stores,here in Greece.

If you bought it from a big chain store then I would imagine it to be the real deal, but you never know. How long ago did you purchase it? You may be entitled to a refund. What makes you think it's a dud unit?

The not so good sound quallity(I have wrote a post about it in the "Equipment Reviews + Pictorials-NW-S700 vs NW-E010 vs NWD-B100 series") and that i cant see the made in country writting at the back of my device.

If I was you I would take it back and let them know the problems you are having with the unit. Get a replacement and see how that goes. This is strange, this unit has very good sq.

arvacon - I think my 706 said 'made in China' on the back.

Also, you may just have a faulty unit rather than a fake one. If anyone else experienced a 'muffled' sound with the 706, I'm sure it would have been mentioned on here already since it was released at least ten months ago.

I don't recall anyone ever saying it sounded muffled (I could be wrong as I haven't read every single thread about the the 706) but I think if this issue was common to the 706, someone would have pointed it out by now.

Maybe it's just faulty?

arvacon - at the very least, ask Sony to confirm whether there should be a "Made In xxx" somewhere on the back of the unit.

If they say YES - take it straight back to the store and insist on either a refund, or, if you want to get a replacement, ask to open the packaging and check the back of the unit first. If it's fake or a demo, it could explain why you're having an issue that no one else (so far), has commented on.

Guys,I think that it is worth the try.We must learn the truth,so i send an email at sony's support department.Have a look in my device with these clearer photos(I putted in my scanner :blink: ) and you will see the CE mark.I think that it reminds me the china's feak toys this secure mark at the back.

Hang on a second, is this the same unit in both pictures? The front is black while the back is violet??? Surely not?

My unit doesn't have the country of origin on the back either. I bought mine in a Sony Centre here in the UK.

no worries Panathas17, hehe, and Markey great point, I knew something was up with the unit, and I wasn't sure what it was, but the colours don't match, unless the black colour is blue in pictures? but that didn't appear so in the other photo arvacon posted. Could it be a quick repair by the store?

Yes, the first picture arvacon posted the back of the unit appears to be black but on close inspection I see a hint of blue. In the last post by arvacon the unit appears to be two different colours, a black front and violet back. arvacon, please confirm colour of unit. Also was it reduced, ex-demo or something like that? Ascariss, you could be right re a repair job.

I wasn't aware Sony made a duo-coloured 706??? Definitely suspicious about it now. I thought it was a trick photo when I saw the different colours.

Definitely get a replacement and check it out first. The 'real' 706 (same colour back and front) is not muffled and sounds great.

It's as if the casing broke and they just stuck a different 'back' on - did you pay full price for it? Was it listed as refurbished or something?

1. Check that the serial number is the same on the back of the unit and in the menu.

setting.advanced settings.informatiom (item3)

2.Under same menu check that the model number and capacity is correct.

The other items will be both 1.00

3.Verify the capcity available. I am unable to determine the correct value at this moment. Hopefully some can provide this information.

A.From looking at the picture it can be argued that the purple is a false colour, created by the scanner's light refecting of the metal surface.

Guys,sorry for the scanned pictures and the bad resolution,and thank u all for ur replays.I hope from these new pictures to be seen the purple(mauve) color of my device..I send message to Sony,but they didn' t answer yet.I left it to working loudly,up to four ours,and I think that I saw a small improvment on sq.I dont know if its my fantasy,but I think that I will change earpuds(maybe with the mdr-ex90).Will I see any difference in sq with them?

Before 5 minutes I send this message at sony in Japan.I hope that they will replay me.

ok I went searching on the web for photos of the european model. I found this

interesting note I went to generation mp3 to check out some picks of the unit, maybe the units in this thread are demos but if they are not then well they have even less writing on the rear

edit found this on ebay, 600 model, auction is from the US, but I think the model is from europe.
