I see absolutlely no reason to wait for Hi-MD to arrive in Australia. With the Australian dollar being somewhat valuable again on the world market you will be able to get Hi-MD units at almost half the price in Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore. Also as usual the Hi-MD units released in Australia will come with 240V only power adapters instead of the 110-240V adapters that come with the 'world model' MD units. The 240V power adapters supplied in Australia are usally bigger and heavier to the the multi-voltage ones to. So you're essentially paying twice the price to get stiffed on the power adapter when buying in Australia. No thanks.

i might get the Japanese model of the NH1 when it gets announced...since i want to have a unit that can read kanji...oh and if ur living around Sydney there is a third party Sony shop (down near Town Hall station on the Star Bar side of George St...entrance next to EasyWay and opp. Nitrogen when u follow the tunnel down to Town Hall station) that will be getting in Hi-MD units hopefully by June as well...so if u want to see the units first hand @ a retail outlet that's the shop to go to as it'll be the 1st shop that will display/sell Hi-MD units in Sydney...

Thats interesting news about Hi-MD in Oz. According to Sony NZ there won't be any units in this country until the end of this year. Strangely enough they were advertising the Hi-MD blanks for sale for about a month at a whopping US$ 9 each, but have since removed them from their website.

Strange that. Don't see why would be a problem to ship few thousands Hi-MD units to NZ. Sorry I tend to think that NZ MD market is small enough for them to have volume problems and therefore cause any launch/shiping delay. I'm quite sure that you ll get them around the same time as we here in AUS. If not then just order one from here

yup that's tru...but i think u need to reserve a seat or sumthing for the launch on the 26th since the invitation i got was telling me it was being held @ SonyStyle...

Unfortunately I don't have any press or dealer credentials to attend this launch event. I ve heard this from other person who will be going.

Anyway good news, cuz me was thinking that we d be delayed for some time after euro and us launch.

Cheers

well official release date set by Sony Australia is going to be July 2004 (taken from the newest edition of their Pulse magazine) and the blanks will retail for A$10...i hav nfi y NZ is being charged US$9/blank but i think that's absurd...
