MZ-NH1 will also be available in gold color.

MZ-NH3D will also have one more color: blue.

Also some specification changes for MZ-NH1.

Cradle will NOW be for charging only!

NOT USB/data transfer.

To connect the USB, must remove cradle and connect by wire directly.

Japanese launch date is 10th July, 2004.

Personally, it's much better to use the cradle for USB connection & not charging only.

How dumb it is to make you remove the cradle during USB connection!

Defeats the purpose of the cradle.

Anyway I am still planning on getting the MZ-NH1 . . .

The wait is killing me.

The change you mention that the ‘cradle is only for charging’ is a significant change from the photos of the demo models that have been seen. Do you know if this means that you will also be able to connect the power supply directly, that is without the stand as with the MZ-N910. This is something I have wanted with the MZ-NH1, as when I travel I just want to take the power supply to be able to recharge and NOT the cradle as well

alcohol, where in the announcement does it describe this change? My ability to read Japanese is limited to some katakana, but the table still seems to describe a USB Cradle as I read it.

Also, it mentiones USB power, which would mean that if you are right and have to use only a cable rather than the cradle to do transfers, at least you will still be powered up by the USB cable, not running on battery power. In that case, I wouldn't care too much.

Nevermind. I see the babelfish translation now and of course you are right. My statement about USB power is also right so I don't care. I don't think I would use the cradle except for charging and frankly, am happy to save the space on my desk near the PC and have one less charger in all the tangle behind it. I would put the charging stand in my bedroom so I can grab the unit to go when I need it. I wonder if you can plug into the line out when it is in the cradle to drive some speakers? I'll have to check some pictures.

My problem now is whether to wait for the NH1, buy a 600 next time I go to the US (2 weeks) because I'm impatient, just give in and get an ipod like the rest of the world, buy the new Sony HDD player in Japan this summer, or do nothing for 12 months when all the options will be better. Maybe I'll just get them all :rasp:

I think I am going to buy a NH600D now, and then wait for what good top-end models come out. So far, I like the EH1 - Maybe I will used 600D for recording, and the EH1 for walking around. 24 hrs playback on Hi-LP - sounds good to me.

Only bad thing is that it doesn't have the big jog pad of the NH900.

I still have some questions about the apparent changes made to the MZ-NH1.

Looking back at the photos these show a multi-pin connector on the bottom of the unit. I assume that this was to act to connect for both USB and charging.

Now this has make me realise that this model was not using a standard USB A-> Mini-B cable, and that there is (or was) therefore no way to connect USB to the unit without the docking station.

Could this be why Sony has made a change here? Is there someone who can establish or get a photo of the bottom of the revised model?

that kinda reminds me of the N1 where u couldn't connect the unit w/o the docking station...but since the NH1 also charges from the docking station it means that u gotta lug the whole thing around...that could be a good and a bad thing imo...

I think the announcememt mentions a USB B type connector, so perhaps the tradeoff for not having USB with the cradle is to have a standard USB connection. That would be cool.

Regarding the Gold color for the US., best to keep an eye on the Sony web site for the US. If it shows up there, it will be available, otherwise, import from Japan or get the silver.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

It will be USB powered.

Which is not a bad idea.

BUT it will nice much nicer on my desk on the stand next to my VAIO PCV-V10/W.

I have another item in my collection: a VAIO PCG-U3.
