Sorry I stand corrected. The only new equipement I am interested in is minidisc. I wouldnt mind a minidisc with wma and aac playback but I figure the minidisc died with atrac.
-
If aac is so good why doesnt sony use it?
-
I can understand the critisism of ss because some people prefer drag n drop but it's kinda nit picky to say a format like atrac is crap. WMA has drm but it wasnt forced on users like it was on atrac. Just by accident I saved all my music in atrac and also ripped to wma on another usb drive. I didnt know if I would need it but I knew atrac was unpopular. I dont use codecs at low bit rates and at high bit rates all the formats sound good to me. So I guess most people dont like atrac at low bitrates compared to wma or aac?

I think what bothered sony was the cost of the investment in the music rights. In other words on the bookkeeping side they saw a trillion$ spent and a .0001% return on that investment! I think sonys mistake was ever getting into the music business beacause it tanked after napster and file sharing. Sony ended drm in 2004 with ss3.4 but they had already spent over 10 years trying to be too restrictive. Basically sony got a bad reputation from drm and could not overcome it.

The letter doesn't say there will be no support for atrac. In other words we may still be to play atrac on the new daps. Some of the daps may support atrac ,wma, and mp3. all that has to happen is to drag and drop the atrac file in the dap.

It happened to me I had to call sony connect about 10 times before I was able to d/l a transferable copy. The thing that got me was I already had hundreds of d/l and I had one problem but they were so uptight about giving rights away.
-
It shouldnt but I thought there might be a cable or ps issue. Sounds like it is a software issue/conflict. Maybe listing all the software/programs on the computer will help someone identify a problem.
-
Are the mp3s on a usb or firewire drive?
-
It sounds like you need to register your computer with connect. Those are the kind of problems I get when I forget to register a computer. Everything works but it's really glitchy.

Flashed based players are probably the future but... Since 2004 there have been about 1 new himd model per year. The last one the rh1 is the best so far. If sony improves on the rh1 I'm willing to wait a couple of years for a new model. Dont get me wrong. The MD will eventually become extinct like every other technology but I think it will be around for a few more years. I have never had any problems getting md blank media. Were they scarce for a month or so?
-
This is going to be interesting! When I bought my first MD player in 2004, I was told that stories on the internet said that Sony was phasing out md soon. I'll bet Connect is still operating next year.
-
I didnt ask cause they sounded american. Any way I do not believe connect is closing.
-
I called connect and they said they are not closing.
-
I called connect and they said the story is untrue!

I dont use the SS backup utility. I go to the file in MY COMPUTER and copy it to the destination hard drive.
-
sorry I cant really answer your question but you should back your music on a usb hard drive. it makes restoring your computer much easier.
-
You can register the new computer at CONNECT and then be able to play music files. I am positive this will work but it should be tried.

SonicStage Problem: "Sonicstage converting database"

What do you mean by keeps on converting ss database? -
Same here I dont know what happened. Been thinking of messing with the drive setting in the bios setup.
-
I think it will work with one drive. The main thing is to clear out SS.
-
yES I have experienced this. I wasnt sure what size the file issue was . I guessed it was 1 gig folders causing the problem. 500 mb sounds more accurate. My ss library is over 400 gb. There is no way I can import the whole thing without errors.
-
I have experienced what you are describing. My solution was to delete entire library but NOT from the computer. Then move folder to another harddrive. So now the ss library is clean and folder is on new harddrive. Now do not import as a folder. Import the FILES under the folder you want. The songs should show up in SS.

However, if at all possible, try to rip materials from the original CD Sources! Cant agree more! One thing to keep in mind. If the source material is mediocre quality- rip at 48kbs. IE live doors. Also if convertimg from comressed source use maximum compression. IE source mp3 128 convert to 48kbs atrac. It's worth the slight hit in quality for the massive space saving. KEEP IN MIND THESE RECOMENDATIONS ARE FOR ROCK MUSIC!
