Outside Sony's official firmware, no. If your PSP is version 1.0 or 1.50, you can run homebrew programs (eg. emulators, etc). However, you cannot do it with any firmware later than that. You cannot even downgrade you firmware. Also, newer games will require the newer firmware.
-
Well, it doesn't work that way. You can drag-n-drop MP3s, but the unit won't be able to play them. sony MP3 file manager is the closest thing to drag-n-drop. If you want drag-n-drop, you should have bought iAudio DAPs.
-
There is a Sony app called MP3 file manager, but I don't know if it works with the E00x or not.
-
No, they're not available in the US. However, they are available in Canada. I don't think Sony USA is going to release these, especially with the looming rumor of 10GB flash based iPod, and higher capacity nanos.
-
Save yourself the headache, and just rip to MP3. Unless you require gapless playback, there is no advantage in ripping to Atrac.
-
Why waste time converting your MP3 to Atrac? You'll only get lower sound quality due to transcoding. If you have different volume of your MP3s, use a freeware called MP3gain to properly normalize them.

Excellent findings. Another project would be unlocking the rest of Atrac3+ bitrates for AtracCD.

Well, that's the potential of the hardware, but we know how Sony operates. Even if Sony did produce a device with those specs, they'll probably release it 10 years after Apple did all those and officially support gapless on iPods.
-
Huh? You use an amp, so of course it's going to be louder. That's the whole point. Also, I don't understand why you use AVLS in the first place if you don't like the loud volume. Just lower the actual volume (maybe about 5 - 8).

We might think it's silly, but those people and the media will make this a big thing, forcing senators to put out stupid laws. We already have the DMCA because of the ignorance of the public, and those who cares think it's just "silly." Wait till the government ban any electronic device due to porn/piracy. There are too many stupid laws and lawsuits in the US. Let's add more!

People could claim the serial number, and claim a warranty or replacement through the manufacture. If the real user actually needs a replacement, they could be denied one. Another more farfetch yet possible is if a person claim the serial number, and reported it as being stolen, when the actual user register the device with that serial number, he/she can get into trouble. Also, consumer electronic piracy is rampant in asia. They have fake cell phones and walkman all over the place, and etching a known real serial number can mask that. If the FBI investigated a ring of pirates and found out that serial number, it can be a hassle for the real owner.

Question: Can the display show kanji characters?

The E00x series is not available in the US. We don't even get the Axxx and Axxxx series. All we have are outdated stuff (E3xx, 4xx, and 5xx).

Told ya, Sony USA is retarded. You should start spreading the news about the Canadian version supporting Divx so nobody will buy the US version.
-
There's no DIVX logo, only compact disc, DVD, and MP3. Again, I put a DVD filled with Divx videos, and the unit does not recognize the files at all (shown as empty folders). As I said, I'm not disclaiming that yours cannot play Divx. I think Canadian version does support Divx (as I pointed out from Sonystyle Canada), but US version does not.
-
Regardless of being portable or not, most portable DVD players sold in the US are region 1 and all (meaning they can only play region 1 DVDs and non-regioned/region all DVDs). Again, another stupid consequences thanks to regioning. Funny thing is, the common Joe doesn't really know/care about this regioning. Even the PSP is region locked for movies AND music UMDs.

Zoom in to the start/end of each MP3, and you'll find trailing silence, which resulting in gaps. No matter how "short" the gap is, gap is gap. MP3 is not gapless by nature (Lame gapless relies on tags to be gapless). I don't know if the Axxx is really not gapless or not though.

OK, Sony USA is officialy a retarded company in my book, controlled by a bunch of morons. If you check Sonystyle Canada website: http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/servlet/P...00n45940n100175 You'll see on the spec list, the DVE7000S definitely supports Divx. However, as I mentioned, no Divx compatibility listed at Sonystyle USA for the EXACT same product model number. Well, I am curious, and armed with a DVD filled with Divx video files, I went to a local Sonystyle store. I asked one of the employee about Divx compatiblity on the DVE7000S. She said she doesn't know. I asked her if I can play my DVd on the display unit. she said she doesn't care because she wanted to know also. I put the DVD in, the unit is reading it for a couple of seconds, then it listed the folders I have in the DVD. However, it doesn't list any files! The unit just shows empty folders. WTF? That means it cannot recognize AVI files. I told her that the Canadian version is actually Divx compatible, and Sony Canada website even said so. She said I'd better import one from Canada. So, here we go again, sony USA goes above and beyond to neuter USA version of their products. first, they are eliminating kanji compatibility. Now this. Sony USA executives are a bunch of racist morons. So Canadian friends, go flock ebay and practice free market. Promote this obvious stupidity of Sony USA so nobody buys the US version of the unit.
-
Interesting! I shall return to the Sonystyle store I went to couple days ago armed with a DVD full of Divx/Xvid files.
-
Are you sure about Divx playback? There is no mention of Divx compatibility anywhere on Sonystyle or Sony Japan announcement. Another question, have you tried JPEG viewing? Are the pictures stretch out to fill the widescreen? I bought a Toshiba portable DVD player, and found out it always stretch non-DVD sources to fill out the widescreen, and there is no option to disable that feature, making it USELESS for photo viewing, considering it has SD and memory stick slot.

Actually, portable DVD players are dropping in price. Many of them (Toshiba, etc) are selling uner $200 nowadays. The only deciding factor for price is probably the size and quality of the LCD screen. The D-VE7000S doesn't have s speaker built-in, but it does have a dock with speakers included. Also, you can turn off the LCD. Interesting since according to Sony Japan's spec, it can read MP3s burned on DVDs. Too bad the size kinda big, and no Atrac support.
-
Couple things you can try: 1. Which region of SS3.2 you have? Try getting the same SS4.0 from the same region of your SS3.2. 2. Use SS4.0 Japanese or Asia pacific version. Downside is you loose the connect store, and you probably won't be able to use tracks you purchased from the connect store previously. It's kinda hit & miss.

Wow, Sony NW is supporting AAC? That is almost unreal, although not entirely impossible considering the PSP has supported AAC for quite some time. Let's see if Sony can make AAC gapless in the walkman (AAC can be gapless, but stupid Apple doesn't care).
