Haha.. Damn, wonder what the remote looks like. Where does it charge? Eek

They'll squeeze off CD players in low numbers for a while. MD, definitely. ATRAC, for a couple of years.

Nice. I have grown to adore Madden 2006 and World Series of Poker (texas hold 'em, etc), both infrastructure. Very entertaining. Here's an interesting tidbit: If you employ WPA encryption with your wifi router, and play a game that was made before firmware v2 and is infrastructure, it will not be able to support WPA. The reason is that a game doesn't draw it's wireless info from the unit (in terms of what it can support) -- it draws from what was programmed as an acceptable option in the game. When trying to access WPA in World Series of Poker, it is dimmed out.

I see the hard drive players are dropping in price as well; looks like the new Walkmans are approaching steadfast.

Exclusive ATRACLife NW-A3000 + NW-A1000 Review
Christopher replied to Christopher's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
No EQ for mp3's. It has a proprietary USB connection; line out via the headphone jack, although the cradle has a dedicated line out; full atrac3plus (even the new bitrates), mp3, and eventually WMA support in December. The button on the left is the "LINK" button (which gives instant access to artist link), and on the right is the volume control. Sonicstage 3.2 will work with these units, albeit in a limited capacity. The buttons are refreshing, tactile, and work well. The options are incredible, probably the best in any MP3 unit at this point in a certain sense. Search is equally great -- you can do artist, album, song, genre, three years of playback history, release date, recent transfers, favorite 100, a rating system that is created by your usage, and an improved bookmarking and playlisting interface. I don't believe mp3's are gapless, but I'll look into it. As for the remote, yes, no LCD -- why would you need one with such a beautiful display? Older remotes are compatible, but not fully because this unit has features that were not in any previous generation, so expect limited functionality in that regard. This is about as close to the champion of UI (iPod) as Sony may get. One handed operation should be fine for most people, given the shape and response of the unit's buttons. This is the silver A3000; there is no black. Expect the material on these devices to drastically differ in regards to scratches, although expect some fingerprints. You've played with the RH10 -- you know how OLED is. 128kbps ATRAC3plus plays for about 29 hours, so somewhere in the range of half that figure for 256kbps ATRAC3plus is plausible. The remote offers volume, 3-direction key (Play/Pause/FF/RW/Vol + -/Bookmark) and hold. Yes. -
Yes, it will.

Try Sonicstage 3.2.

At 500 replies, I think we've reached the apex of speculation and discussion relevant to this topic. Thank you for your partonage, and when further news develops, it will be reported in a new topic.

Good day, A little birdie passed these along my way (thank you, A) -- I figured that the majority of you would be interested in quality pictures of the upcoming Walkman; the purple unit is the NW-A1000, and the NW-A3000 is the silver/black looking unit. Please feel free to ask any question you wish about the NW-A3000 or NW-A1000, as we will be able to answer it with 100% accuracy. Enjoy, and don't forget to check out some impressions of these new units below.. Click on the images to enlarge them. It's interesting to see how the NW-A1000 (the 6gb model) is roughly the same size as the NW-HD5, but the NW-A3000 (the 20gb model) is actually larger. The shape of these new devices is obviously very esoteric and will most certainly catch the eye of any gadget enthusiast when they go live. Both units have a proprietary US connection, line out via the headphone jack (although the cradle accessory has a dedicated line out), and full ATRAC3plus (even the new bitrates), mp3, and eventually WMA support in December. The buttons are refreshing, tactile (somewhat akin to the NW-HD3), and work well. Firmware is upgradeable! Expect the material on these devices to drastically improve in regards to scratches, although expect some fingerprints. After reading my words, are you as stunned as I am? Are we talking about Sony here, or a complete alter-ego? More pictures of the NW-A1000: [radically different design from the usual blister packaging - a vaio flavor?] [comparison pictures with the NW-E507] [buttons whilst orange and white -- yes, they change.]

Las Vegas. This is the largest Electronics expo in the world -- I will be able to sample Connect Player, the new Walkmans, and interview people who have high influence over the format. I may be able to get a word in with Stringer..we'll see. Any interaction with Sony will be recorded by Minidisc, and any photos will be shared.

That is truly insane, yet admirable. Is there a universal AIBO command that is recognized by all generations? How funny would it be if they were all active at the same time..they'd probably create offspring in the same frequency of rabbits, lol.

We will bring news, pictorials, interviews and much more.

Welcome to the forums, splatt. Try the MDAC Repair Utility in the "Downloads" section.

Possibly; everything in that regard is pretty much up in the air at this point.
-
Don't worry -- this is going to be a rich multimedia experience for everyone.

Thanks. Expect full pictorials/reviews, full summation of the new Connect Player, interviews recorded by my NH900, and much more.

I'm very pleased to announce that ATRACLife, a division of the Sony Voice Network, will be at the largest consumer electronics expo in the world - CES (2006). This expo has seen the debut of many technologies, including the Minidisc, CD, DVD, Blue-Ray, etc. The majority of Sony's products for FY2006 will be on display, Sir Howard Stringer (CEO of Sony) will be holding a keynote, and much more. In recent weeks, Sony’s management team has outlined a new vision of the company’s future. It is a vision that is streamlined in terms of product lines, manufacturing sites and efficiencies. As a representative of the community, I will seek answers to how the ATRAC codec will evolve and of course, the products that support it. No rumors, no run-around; just the truth. To keep our true strength and status as a premium website for all things ATRAC, we must deliver truly differentiated, champion news stories that afford our visitors the unique, compelling and personalized experiences they desire. I look forward to visiting CES to ensure that there is no void in regards to information that is relevant to the format, and that together, we have a mature voice that will speak on behalf of the community.

ATRAC will be supported by Sony at least until 2007. I'm not sure what their plans are after that, but I imagine they will continue developing it as it's a very mature codec. I imagine by that point things will be much more user-friendly in terms of encoding, etc.

You must've recorded those tracks in Hi-SP. Minidisco informed us a few weeks ago that MZ-M units will allow you to upload any PCM recording, regardless of source.
