To whom much is given, much will be expected. EVERY rich country has the responsibility to help our less fortunate brothers and sisters in the world. You can be as selfish and xenophonic as you want to be, but talk to me about these beliefs when you sell off all your non-US made stuff and get only US made products. On a different note, you work in food service, your job didn't get outsourced, it just went away due to a free market. Stop looking for a scapegoat, get trained in a field that's in need of workers and you'll be fine. The US is experiencing an extreme shortage of nurses for instance.

They don't have gapless playback sadly. MP3 files can't support it. If gapless playback is important to you, I'd suggest going with a flash player that supports the OGG file format, or just use MD only.

Your original post didn't talk about the R900 or any other model. I was only commenting on your comparison of a player only model vs. a Hi-MD recorder. The Hi-MD recorder models read more dense media and can actually record or play uncompressed files. There is no reason to expect them to get similar battery life to the old units. By the way, they do get much better battery life when recording or playing non-Hi-MD codecs.

The DR480 is sold. The E710 has been withdrawn.

That's not even close t oa fair comparison. Your model doesn't even record at all.

Do you make special mixes for holidays? Did you put a bunch of romantic songs on an MD to play for your significant other this Valentines day? Were you "Rocking Around The Christmas Tree" last December with a MD in your hand and earbuds in your ears? I'd be interested to know if I'm the only one.

Ain't nothin' wrong with that.

No, I've not bought one yet, mostly because I have so many 80min discs here that are still unused.

The NH700 isn't marketed to the US, so you'd have to import one from Canada if you want it. I'd suggest getting the NHF800 or splurging a little on the NH900 so you cn get additional recording features, better sound (HD digital amp), bettery battery life, and a metal face vs a plastic one. If I was going to buy a new unit today, I'd go for the NH900. I'm waiting until April or May though, so I'll see what's out then.

Most recent MD units from Europe are volume capped and not desirable as compared to MD for other markets. I'd certainly suggest getting your MD from the US. The specs of the MZ-NHF800 can be found HERE and the specs of the MZ-NH700 can be found HERE.

Aeriyn's recommendation of a flash mp3 player for road use is a good one. The Creative Muvo TX is a great player that is small, has FM, and can come in a 512MB capacity, all for around $100 USD. That'd be a great fit for use while out and about. For recording yourself playing your instrument, I suggest a lower end Hi-MD model like the NH700. Do not buy the NH600 as it does not have a mic input. With a NH700 you'll be able to record your music with the mic and upload it to your PC for archival purposes or to burn to CD for sharing with others.

I feel for you. GL bud.

Why would he need to lose the sub? Does the Sonic Impact amp not have a sub output? Most good amps will allow him to use a sub. As for the Klipsch recommendation from sony_man. I don't think that Klipsch speakers would be a good option for classical music, at least not the best option. Klipsch is well known for making a bass heavy muddy sounding speaker. Klipsch stuff is great for rock or rap in my opinion, but lacks in definition for acoustic or classical music. I forgot to mention my dream system when I posted earlier. I'd really like an Adcom/Kef combo in the future, but that'll be expensvie.

Don't worry buddy, Google will soon bestow you with more Gmail invites than you can ever get rid of. I wish I could find more people to take my invites.

MD is truly better than ANY HD DAP in extreme conditions, no need to single one out regardless of it's popularity. That's not the best reason to take a MDR with you up there though. Why not take an MD and some blanks up with you and keep an audio log? Let's tout all of MDs strengths when comparing it to an iPod or any other playback device. Where MD lacks in some playback features (not gapless ) it shines in recording capabilities that most MP3 playback devices can't match.

You'd best be served by using a nice stereo integrated amp and good speakers. The Pioneer Elite A35R is on my short list of amps to consider buying. The amp is relatively cheap and has gotten a lot of great reviews. The Speakers will be a lot harder to recommend because everyones ears are different. I like my Boston Acoustics speakers a lot though. I'd head into a stereo shop and look at Boston, Kef, Paradigm, and Atom as a few good brands. Now if you're looking for something that's the equilvalent of PC speakers, then I'd say to look at Logitech. They offer a lot of bang for the buck.

That sounds like a good plan. I'm getting a T610 soon, thanks to Kurisu. I am considering upgrading it's screen to the T630's TFT screen.

ZeroDB, send me a PM with your email address, I'll give you an invitation. By the way, the invites are flowing a lot more freely these days.

I think that the Net Walkman would be a fine choice for someone who only copies files off of a PC. It's pluses are small size and native MP3 playback. In my opinion it suffers from the lack of a user replacable battery and removable media. With the Network Walkman you'll be dependant on a PC to charge the device and you'll be stuck with no more than 1gb of files with you at any time. Ultimately the choice is yours, you won't go too wrong with either choice in my opinion.

I'm beginning to make my move into the world of Hi-MD so I'm liquidating my pre-Hi-MD gear. I've got Sony MZ-N510 and Sharp MD-DR480 recorders that I'd like to sell. All the units are in near mint shape. I've even got the original packaging for the Sharp recorder. Pics available upon request. Ok, here are the details. Sony MZ-N510 - I've got a silver model that will come with a fake leather case, RM-MC33EL LCD remote, felt bag, remote commander for a car, car charger, and AC adapter. This model looks as good as the day I got it. It's been a real warhorse for making MDs and titling them. I'll miss this unit. SOLD. *Sharp MD-DR480. A blue unit that will come with a recharging dock, Asian AC adapter w/ US adapter, AA battery attachment, LCD remote, clip-on 4-pole phones, 4-pole earbuds, felt bag, box and manuals. SOLD. I reserve the right to withdraw any items.

We'd all need desktop chargers and power cords everywhere we went.
-
No, the radio feature would not be added. I'd use my money better and just get a RM-MC33EL.

You could try buiding one with these instructions.

Can I Backup My Mds To Other Pcs Using Sonic Stage?
Fat Tires replied to silvermachine's topic in Software
The short answer is no. -
There's been some discussion about minidisc casting here, do a search for more info. As it is, I copy some podcasts to MD for use when I'm out and about.
